Best way to store a cart
Thanks for the ideas. The oxygen absorber & glass jar sounds like a great idea.
Shakti Stones Do they actuall work guys.
Rapogee, there are sound scientific reason why items such as powercord and isolation devices can influence and alter the sound of a system. And you correct that some will influence some devices more than others.Unfortunately, there is no scientifi...
Sound reflecting panel
Rather absorb the reflections on the left side. You can buy some absorbtion panels that don't look bad at all which should solve your problems (or at least improve things) While you're at it, do the same for your ceiling.RegardsPaul
KAB 1200 vs. everything else.
12-26-08: Tvad ‘Pauly, I mentioned twice before in this thread that I have used an AT150Mlx in my analog rig. You wouldn't consider the $250 AT150Mlx "over carting" the Technics, would you?’No I wouldn’t. The Dyna XXII on a SL is over carting and...
KAB 1200 vs. everything else.
Tvad, I agree with your comments as to what constitutes an analogue front end – table, arm, cart, phono cable etc. etc. Many folks ‘conveniently’ leave out items such as cabling and phono stages in their costing.I mentioned earlier that you have t...
High efficient speakers
You may want to consider some single driver speakers, especially back loaded horns such as carder or kcs. They present a very benign load to a vacuum tue amp that really brings out the best from the amp.RegardsPaul
KAB 1200 vs. everything else.
Tvad, with all due respect you are expecting too much from the Technics. The KAB modified tables are fine tables, but by sticking on expensive peripherals (and I use the term peripherals loosely) like a 2K cart and 5K phono you’ll only end up reve...
Coupling caps, upgrade, similar values
David, it depends in what part of the circuit the coupling cap is located. If the cap is between two amplifying stages within the same amplifier/pre-amplifier, it is safest to keep the capacitance as close as to standard as possible. Going bigger c...
Black gate "N" & "NX" series how long to breakin
BG "N"s are astonishingly good. To my ear they are better than many premium film caps. Not sure how they make lytics sound quite that good but I sure wish somebody would continue with the BG range of caps. Especially the N and V range.RegardsPaul
Black gate "N" & "NX" series how long to breakin
Very very long ... I never bothered to watch the clock but mine took a few weeks running 24x7 before they started settling.Mine was used in the MC stage of a phono, so yours may settle a bit quicker. regardsPaul
Single driver speakers - opinions
T_Bone, the bass compares favorably with that of my Meadowlarks. The Madisons need no bass reinforcement as mine are 6’-7’ from the walls. Soundwise, the Meadowlarks now put me to sleep. They sound so terribly slow compared to the Madisons that I ...
Single driver speakers - opinions
TBone, the curve also seem to indicate a 10db drop from 90Hz to 50Hz, but in reality my Madisons are very strong in the bottom. I can easily compare them with my HT speakers which are Meadowlark Shearwaters which are rated -3db at 34Hz.Obviously m...
EAR 834P + Bent Audio Stepups = greatness?
Zanth, a 834P can be made to sound great. The question is, do you have the skills or know who to hire with said skills to do the mods to make it sound great? 09-23-08: Mgreene Once all, as in ALL, the mods are made, it is no longer the "834P" it i...
Single driver speakers - opinions
Have to agree with JohnK on this one. I have both Fostex 126E and 206E speakers, and there is no way the 126E gives a better soundstage – granted in my case the 206E is in a much more expensive cabinet but the 206E provides better delicacy, detail...
Belt stretch
In defense of RcccAmazing how stylus drag can make a belt stretch even when the platter mass exceeds 10, 20 or even 30 pounds, yet somehow unclamped LPs on felt mat do not slip on the platter! So funny how the direct drive folks boast about speed s...
