Dan ed,actually I can not get local channels in my set up, there is a big tree right where the dish needs to aim to get them. But why would I want to pay when I get the off air service for free? and like I mentioned the off air is better sounding ...

I think with all other things equal, then I say yes it is best to have high efficiency speakers so the amp can cruise along in an effortless mode and for the right solid state designs class A all the time.why not?

I believe Peter Walker worked on the 63's from 1963 to 1981 hence the name ESL 63.fwiw

I always preferred the 57, it has a magic that the 63 lacks. The 57 may have perfect tone or maybe a bit more nuance it is hard to say but they seem to have a more palpable presence. I always felt the 63 may be more 'neutral' but maybe in a subtra...

thanks guysI should mention that I am using my stereo for sound so it is not the TV that is affecting the problem.

Beave thanks for the volume control comparison, it seems right and explains the 'jumpy' volume control on the NAD, a bit of a pain on low volume stuff...

the Morrow might be interesting, they have super detail, though I wonder if the 'neutral' quality they have would work well with Maggies.I like to recommend Gabriel Gold Revelations which fall into your price range and have a very musical quality ...
