Maggies a waste if only 3' from backwall?
Eldartford,I know the 1.6 has a QR tweeter. The point I was making is that the 1.7 has all QR drivers, it seems to me this would be a plus. Also fwiw, there are some who think the 3.6 lacks coherency because the bass panel can not keep up with the...
Maggies a waste if only 3' from backwall?
I wonder if the new 1.7 would be a step up from the 3.6, now that it has all QR drivers, which would help make it more coherent. I have not read about a comparison. It also is supposed to have a larger sweetspot. It seems like it would be a better...
Your First Vinyl Album.
it was either Steve Miller 'The Joker' or Blue Oyster Cult 'Tyranny and Mutation' I do not remember. fwiw BOC still remains a guilty pleasure.
Maggies a waste if only 3' from backwall?
They would still sound pretty darn good but not optimum IMO. The extra few feet away from the wall improves the bass and gets rid of some muddiness, thickness and lumpy bass compared to what they can do.I should also add that soundstage depth will...
The 1.6 Maggies - any thoughts on best amp?
first of all there are many threads on this subject you should look for...for a ss amp the Innersound ESL is a popular choice...
Trying Magnepans, need advice
Nice system!I agree the room is too small for Maggies (unless you stick them in the middle somewhere) I imagine the PSBs are quite nice, what is it that you do not like about them?
really bright sounding speaker cables
I found the Kimber 8TC to be a bit lean in the bass as well, it has a smooth tone in the mids, you could pick some up and turn them over in a flash if they did not suit you.
B&W vs Vandersteen?
Antonkk, I was thinking you made up your mind to like the B&W but I guess that is already established.Sorry I lost track of the goal....
B&W vs Vandersteen?
Budt I concur that the ATC midrange is unimpeded, the music just flies out of those things. Active 50 is what I heard...Antonkk it sounds like you have made up your mind, I believe a good stereo is one that sounds good to you, period. The rest doe...

When did you ever hear a system sound so life-like
one time I walked by a house with the front door open and heard a violin that was so rich, vibrant and dynamic I could not believe it. Who knew a violin got so loud? Of course it was a real violin and I learned a big lesson, no stereo is even clos...
B&W vs Vandersteen?
fwiw a friend had a 802D/MAC combo (401 and I forget the pre) and I thought the midrange was colored, too warm and the sound seemed to stick around the speaker instead of flowing out and forming a big soundstage, the high end was terrific and with...
Tubes vs. solid state.
Tvad, or ad nauseum:^DSchipo, the point I was making is that I do not know what gear is being used when I go to the rooms to listen but consistantly when I like the sound it has tubes. This is a very casual (unscientific) observation, heck I WANT ...
Tubes vs. solid state.
Schipo who are you asking?Pedrillo I will have to watch Belle Epoque again...Also try Sex and Lucia which has Paz Vega who is similar in looks to Penelope Cruz (a bit more voluptuous but less perfect) in a fun/interesting/silly movie. hubba hubba...
Tubes vs. solid state.
I have read articles about how your ears adapt to the sound given them, for instance, if there is too much high freq info the ears tame the high end (I forget if it was a physical or physcoacoustic effect). Maybe that is what you are experiencing....
