Monster Alpha 2 Cart--What is it?
Oh Yeah, it's stylus is eliptical, and it weighs 5.7 grams.
Monster Alpha 2 Cart--What is it?
I owned/used an Alpha II for quite a while. It's a nice sounding Moving Coil design that cost $650 originally. It's a medium output cartridge, about 1.5mV that should work well with many moving-magnet phono stages. Any load between about 300 ohms ...
Pink noise whine hiss on Levinson 333
Regarding my earlier advice, maybe you should unplug for 5 minutes or more because the ML 333 probably has a lot of power supply storage capacitance.
Pink noise whine hiss on Levinson 333
I don't know about the relay pop, you may want to make sure that the amp and AC outlet it's connected to are properly grounded. Beyond that, if the amp produces audible hiss without the inputs connected and the speakers aren't super high efficency...
Preamp DAC for my Thiel 7.2 ML333
Tai, I'd go with the used BAT-5i in your situation, I think that would work really well with the other gear. Instead of the older Audio Alchemy gear, I'd go with either a Bel Canto DAC-1 (or 1.1), or a Perpetual Technologies P-3A with the ModWrigh...
What s your latest buy? Happy with it?
My two latest purchases have been front-end pieces. I bought a Michell Gyro SE II with OL RB250 arm and a Benz Ruby 2 cartridge and I am exstatic with the improvement that made. My vinyl collection never sounded so good. I also had my Perpetual Te...
Bi-wiring mishap
Khan-man, you're welcome -- I'm glad I could help out -- but you've got to be more careful. I mean, what if after your girlfriend flipped over the sofa she had hit her head on some Valid Points? Not a pretty picture, is it? If this sort of thing i...
Bi-wiring mishap
To be honest, I don't find this funny at all; it is tragic. If that poor girl has any sense at all she will get a new boyfriend. How STUPID can you get? Man, if I did something that dumb I sure wouldn't broadcast it to the world. So how many of yo...
swans ribbon speakers?
I've heard/owned the M1s and liked them quite a bit. The tweeter is smooth, airy, and detailed. Go for it!
Need TT setup Help
Hmmm, that's curious -- are you sure the platter's correctly installed and seated on the bearing? I think the best advice would be to contact the US distributor, Artech in VT. Maybe they can help. My guess is that thicker spacers and longer screws...
BASIS 2001 OR ARIES
I have owned an Aries/JMW 10, and one of my friends owns a Basis/Graham 2.0. I haven't compared the 2 TTs directly but I would also lean toward the Basis/Graham combo. Now I own a Michell Gyro SE and an Origin Live Rega RB250, with a Benz Ruby 2, ...
Capacitance: Help me understand
High capacitance usually rolls off the high frequencies, not the midrange -- plus, I didn't think the WW Gold Eclipse III was a high-capacitance design. Maybe something else is responsible for the reticent midrange; without more details, I couldn'...
Honesty of the Reviewers
You see, my typo above, "condidering" -- just serves to illustrate that we reviewers are human. I wish Audiogon allowed one to edit his comments after posting! :)
Honesty of the Reviewers
Detlof, you raise some good points and I appreciate your response. As you noted, even the best and most respected reviewers are not immune to psychological hype and can occasionally make errors in their assessments. We are above all, human, and re...
Honesty of the Reviewers
Well Bigboy, I'm a reviewer and I know that I'm very honest when I express my views and I believe that the other reviewers who I know personally are also honest about their opinions. With commercial magazines the reality is that for the most part ...
