Organ CDs with really deep bass
Let's revive this one for a second, I just listened to the recent Ondine SACD of the Philadelphia Orchestra with Olivier Latry playing the Saint Saens Organ Symphony, the Poulenc Organ Concerto and the Barber Toccata Festiva. Latry is a virtuoso o...
Parasound or Forte
Frank, thanks for the correction. The print in those old issues is so small I had trouble recalling the number. :^) It looks like the 5 is also an AB design, from the description given above.
Parasound or Forte
The Forte you should try to find is the Model 4. It is a pure Class A version of the Model 5 and is generally recognized as a far better-sounding amplifier. As far as between the two you mentioned, both have reputations as good amps, you might go ...
Covers on unused RCA inputs?
You're probably thinking of shorting plugs; I use them on the unused phono inputs on my Lamm phono stage and Jadis preamp (the rest of the inputs are currently used). Cardas also makes metal caps to put over the unused inputs. I can't say how much...
6550s vs kt88s for a mac 275 amp
If the sound you're seeking in your preamp is what you want from your amps, the only 6550 I'd suggest would be NOS Tung-Sols. And other than that, I'd suggest getting NOS Gold Lion/Gold Monarch/GEC KT88s. As a general rule, the 6550s will have tig...
BACH Cello Suites - CD only
My preference is the Starker, it is vibrant and beautifully played--the Mercury is a classic reading and recording, couldn't tell you about the RCA. I have also listened to some of the EMI Rostropovich recordings on CD, which sounded pretty good s...
Winds of War and Peace Wilson Audio WCD 8823
Well, then, looks like I saved Nchong some money...
Tube pre-amps $3500 under to add "warmth"
MrT--Well, I must admit that a CJ PV5 is a different animal than the Jadis, it certainly has more of that old-fashioned tube sound that it appears you're looking for. Jadis, in its earlier versions before they started using Philips caps, has more ...
Tube pre-amps $3500 under to add "warmth"
I'm surprised about Mr. Tennis' reaction to the JPL too; at least the earlier version of that line stage, with Telefunken or EI tubes in it, has all the tube bloom you could want (the JP80 even more so), particularly when I had it paired with the ...
Tube pre-amps $3500 under to add "warmth"
Mr. Tennis, have you auditioned a Jadis JPL? That might be the sort of thing you're looking for (or, even better, a Jadis JP80 or JPS2 line stage). Jadis is very natural sounding on recordings of acoustic instruments. From my limited auditoning, I...
Can we fit Dunlavy SC-VI in a samller room?
One reason Dunlavy made different marks of the SC series of speakers was to accommodate different size rooms. You really will lose a lot of what these speakers do right if you try to shoehorn them into too small a room, and I think ultimately you ...
Can we fit Dunlavy SC-VI in a samller room?
And I third it. Great speakers, but they need a larger room than you have. You might look for a IV-A instead.
Sonus Faber Extremas ?
I guess I'm in the minority here about the looks. The woodwork was indeed exquisite, but I never liked the big, almost yawning look of the woofer from the front. An amazingly good speaker, though, when properly driven.
Sonus Faber Extremas ?
Check the thread Amplifier for Sonus Faber Extrema in the archives, that will give you a start.

Thanks Steve. I do want us to look into that, thanks for the contact.
