JPS Labs (Redkiwi)
I will have to look in "the cupboard", but I have several lengths of unterminated JPS Superconductor cable, mainly 1 to 2 metres, and one terminated (by JPS) pair of interconnects - I think around 3m or so, RCA. Anyone want some DH Labs interconne...
Why can't my components just get along?
NEVER EVER use a power strip. The better the system the less musical it will sound if you use such things. They create both a bottleneck for current and are a magnet for noise. A good system will choke on it and reveal the noise in all its painful...
JPS Labs versus Audio Quest (Megasam?)
I have some JPS lying around gathering dust. I do not think it is anything more than competent. For me it falls into the category of many other solid core cables - it smooths over anything nasty going on in your system and rolls off the top and bo...
Best female vocals on CD
Having just caught up with this post, I am going to break some of the truce. But there is an important point here. For those of us deep into jazz, there is something about jazz that many audiophiles do not get. Jazz is cerebral as well as emotiona...
Digital Coaxial Cable 75 ohms choices
Hi Timo. Just shows how very system dependent digital coax can be. In my system (Theta Data III and GenVa) the Canare sounded pleasantly warm, but muffled and dynamically constrained compared with the Kimber 2020.
Digital Coaxial Cable 75 ohms choices
I like the Kimber Select 2020. It is more open and transparent than the D60, as well as better dynamics. But try before you buy.
Spkr cbls & IC's-must they be same brand
Carl, I have been intrigued to hear about the T2 and have been wondering about buying a set. Thanks for the offer, but I doubt you would be interested in the Wireworld cables as they are only about 30 inches long (for my mono blocks). But I need a...
Spkr cbls & IC's-must they be same brand
I understand your points Megasam. The issue of "components from one manufacturer" is interesting. In the case of Naim gear in particular I reckon you are wrong. Naim gear never sounds right to me except when everything is as per the Naim philosoph...
Sand or shot for speaker stands?
I reckon the spikes are best to support the speaker, particularly if you have loaded your stands, and this will probably get rid of the "closed in" sound. Another issue I didn't mention was the nature of the speaker cabinet. With very dead cabinet...
Sand or shot for speaker stands?
Lead shot on its own is less successful that mixing it with a bit of sand, but the difference is subtle. Be careful to listen before and after as it is not a given that you will prefer the sound with your stands loaded. The sound can smooth out, t...
Spkr cbls & IC's-must they be same brand
Carl's experience, which I think was that Audioquest Diamond did not synergise with Audioquest Dragon, proves there are no "golden rules" in this game. But equally, on two occasions I have experienced systems suddenly coming right, when the final ...
Help identifying a ground loop hum
I am not sure I can help, but it seems clear to me you do not have a ground loop hum at all since you would hear this through the speakers. The hum you do have appears to be an unhappy transformer. This might be caused by a number of things. Deter...
Dedicated line questions
Thanks Audaibnjad. I remain a sceptic since similar claims have always proven to be false (such as jitter elimination etc.), but I will see if I can get my hands on one to try.
Dedicated line questions
Hi Korn. Albertporter has covered the ground arrangement. I have found that the results vary. In one case we found a dramatic reduction in noise, and an improvement that was more significant than the dedicated AC feed. In another case we heard NO ...
Best female vocals on CD
Shirley Horn tops the list for me. All of those listed above are indeed lovely to listen to, but many fall into the category of "great voice, but average singer" in my view. Try Shirley and listen to the way she uses her voice - an absolute marvel!
