If bi-amping is so great, why do some high end speakers not support it?
The level of expertise on this list is really impressive. thanks for all your insights.

Interesting stuff. I guess the people who really should answer this would be some speaker manufacturers. Get the ones who do it and the ones who don't together and let the fur fly. thanks for your informed responses.

Up to $4500 burning a hole in my pocket
See if you can get some version of montior audio gold or silver. Very highly rated, and really Monitor makes great speakers. I'm on my second pair, having moved up from gold to the new Platinum series. The treble just sings, there is solid base an...
Whats playing on your system today?
Mahler 7th symphony, Barenboim cond. Great performance. Gives it much more coherence than other versions I've heard. Also Bruno Walter cond. Bruckner 9th. very mellow. For a bonus, a mix I made of adagios from Beethoven string quartets. God bless ...
Most coherent low volume speaker with very fast bass under 10k used?
I've had great pleasure from my Monitor Audio PL100 II. Those are 6k new. If you go up the list to the slender floor standers you'll find speakers you could get well under 10k used.  I find the Monitor remarkable, and much better -FOR MY TASTE-- t...

LAST WORD: Well, that's it. On the advice of folks here I updated my cd source and my integrated amp. And the speakers arrived today: Monitor Audio PL 100 II. And the whole system at about 60% less than regular price, since I got all the pieces on...
Best pressing of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto?
Joshua Bell. Great excitement. I heard him live a few years ago and even though he's probably performed it 200 times, it was still filled with energy.
Request advice-need "brighter" speakers than Totem Hawks
i listened to Totem Element fire recently and found them sweet but kind of laid back and dull. Not to my taste, certainly for $6k.I have Monitor Audio Gold 50, which have a remarkable treble, and fit the bright, fast, light mold. You also might li...

Your Go to CD to Impress
Depends on the person: for a Baptist minister friend I played the Messiah; for a young guy who wanted soothing strings, a Mozart string quartet; for someone who liked it lively, Armik, the neo-flamenco guitarist;for classical nuts like me, either ...

UPDATE: I've taken the advice received here and started with improving my amp. Dealing with audiogon makes it financially possible. Just today got my Sony AE1, which is not very old, for 1/2 price. And you guys were right, makes a big difference. ...

Kalili thanks for advice. I have taken the comments about electronics to heart and just yesterday bought on Audiogon a Sony integrated amp (regular price 2k, got it for 1/2 that). So in a week I'll see how the GX-50s sound with a real amp, rathe...
