Tube Preamp and SS Amps - How?
Meisterkleef-I thought the 6800 series was all SS.John
Tube Preamp and SS Amps - How?
Wow! Have I got a lot to learn! I just have an integrated MAC MA6450. I was thinking about trying to use the amp section from that with some sort of an entry level tube preamp (Cary, C-J, Rogue??). Then eventually upgrade to a real SS power amp. O...

marantz rc2000 durable?
I have an RC2000mkII and love it. You can create macros, etc. It looks complex because it has alot of buttons, but then again, you don't need to page through alot of menus to get to what you want. It is not as hard as it looks to program, but if y...
What is your most beautiful component?
I second Mc2000's comments. McIntosh equipment with the classic glass panels and blue meters gets my vote!
Mixing SS and Tubes
Yes, it seems that I am thinking about doing things bassakwards (nothing new for me!). I was just wondering what if I could leverage what I had to see what the tube experience would be like....(oh oh, I think this hobbie is getting dangerous!) Add...
I can't really hear a big difference
I'll add my $.02, for what it's worth, in what I've learned over the last 3 years or so (a "newbie") in this field. Sometimes it IS about the little things, maybe (as some have pointed out) which applies to digital. I had an Audio Note DAC that so...
CAL Alpha DAC - Cool Tubes?
Thanks everybody for the replys. It does seem strange to me to have tube equipment that is totally enclosed. I've thought about drilling some holes in the cover over the tubes, but would be a afraid of making the cover look like hell! I wonder if ...
Opinions on McIntosh MR7083 Tuner
I own one and enjoy it very much. Pulls in signals pretty well, quiet, and makes my favorite jazz station sound wonderful. It features digital, plus a rotary dial for tuning. I suppose the older, classic MAC tuners are better, but I have no compla...
Replace Speaker Drivers In Pairs...Or At All?
Thanks for the info! I think I see where this is going....John
New Grill Cloth
Yes. Many, many thanks to Albert for his very generous offer. It is such a pleasure to deal with nice people that you run into on this site, who will take the time to answer questions and help you out with such a wonderful hobbie.I hope to return ...
New Grill Cloth
Thanks to everybody for their responses. I will recover them myself and now have a good options for some grill cloth. The frame is plastic...does anybody have any recommendations on the best adhesive and techniques? I'm sure it is easier to remove...
News about Bel Canto Dac2 Release
Very interesting to hear discussions of Bel Canto 1.1 and the Kora Hermes, both have been on my short list along with Audio Note DAC 1.2x. I like the tube sound (I used to have an Audio Note DAC1) and wonder how the new BC DAC2 will sound in that ...
Is McIntosh still a good choice?
I agree with Ljgj. I have a modest MA6450 integrated and love the sound. I saw a MA6850 on ebay recently which went begging at $2200 (what I paid for my MA6450 new), so you can get some great deals. MAC gives a nice full sound and maybe some bloom...
GEORGE HARRISON
I own 3 copies of All Things Must Pass, 2 CD compliations and the original Apple release on vinyl. Whenever I hear it, I get a very warm and mystical feeling. I don't think George ever took himself too seriously...go visit the www.allthingsmustpas...
