Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl?
Which is why I chase after the removal of all metals that have hysteresis issues, when involved in an audio signal. This delayed response tends to contribute to the harmonic structure of the end signal, smearing it across time and then being heard...
Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl?
I even listed the signal and measurement requirements for a given measurement and its analysis to be comparable to what human hearing says the signal sounds like. I did this in some posts, a few years back, in the blowtorch thread over at DIYAudio...
Slipping Belt on Thorens TD-150
The traction on a flt belt and a crowned pulley has to be controlled and also that there will be wear, and thus a slicking or shining of the surface of the belt and the pulley, but obviously the belt carrying the majority of the wear and becoming ...
The longest you have owned any gear?
The oldest, most original, longest owned piece bought by audiophiles and music fans (music fans who buy gear-there is a difference!---they aren’t on this forum or any other!)...is probably:The Linn LP 12 Turntable.
Slipping Belt on Thorens TD-150
Sounds as if the pulley and platter where the belt touches will need some cleaning, and then the problem is likely that the belt is stretched and dry. Thus the belt needs a bit of ’renewal’.You can buy a small container of rubber renewal fluid and ...

Graphene in fuses and cost
The measurements of a fuse in a graph, as specifications... involve graphing how the element behaves in a non-linear fashion, regarding how it constricts current during transients.this adds a non linear distortion characteristic, an inharmonic or ...
Graphene in fuses and cost
Is that a challenge I hear? Do I hear an invitation to the competition dance? :)But no, I think that Geoff might be yanking chains, just a bit, or like Taras notes when he looks at your posts and says ’Geoff is just lobbing bombs over the fence, p...
Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl?
Its not that hard to design an amplifier that is absent the higher ordered harmonics. Such an amp will not use any loop feedback though, as feedback will add harmonic content and IMD of its own regardless of the left/right ’speed’ of the amp (as ...
Graphene in fuses and cost
By SR’s own admission, the number is more likely to be nearer to $25, in their indicated 6:1 ratio. There is a cable bible of a sort issued by TAS, IIRC. In it synergistic states this ratio for a given company viability in the cable market. As a ma...
Most Important, Unloved Cable...
It’s an odd statement but it is true: ’the ground is the source’.electronics design textbooks used to (and might still have) two different versions. At least in my time they did. The classical version of calculations..... and the electron flow ver...
Question for cable/wire naysayers.....
Well, I’ll be kind and take your comment as being not fully fleshed out, and not be inflamed via the holes that can be fleshed out by me and used to insense myself. Which your two line post is chock full of. We have to be careful to not make the k...
Question for cable/wire naysayers.....
I always think of the responses in threads where ’nay sayers’ erupt, as being the outlier, the minimal, like 1 or 2 or 4 voices in a crowd of hundreds.Which is true.the reality is, if you get all the readers of a given thread in a room, there woul...
New Budget phono from Parasound
IMO and IME, the variable resistance is actually fairly critical, more critical than some of the internal component choices that can be made or more important than buying a better unit or not. Ie, that if considering a preamp that is supposed to b...
Are the folks at Vandersteen ok?
All we really know, is.... if Ricahrd Vandersteen were a Hot Porn Star, at least one of us would diligently wait in the rain for a set of his speakers.
