Scott Nixon Tubedac = WOW
Your post illustrates why the cost of a piece of equipment does not translate into listening pleasure for everyone. I was beginning to think that the DAC1 was sent from heaven with all the positive reviews, articles, posts, etc. But, I keep hearin...
assembling mac to dac rig
I am just getting started along this path. I was using a G4 but it died. Upto that point it was working well. I bought two USB drives and configured them in a RAID 1 mirror configuration. Once it died I went with a mac mini and the same drives. If...
Is Monster cable getting better?
I think their cables are quite ordinary. I also refuse to buy them based on their legal strategy of taking to court any company that has the word monster in its title, even those that do not relate to audio. This article is worth reading....http:/...
Small Speakers for Small Room, Close to Back Wall?
I have a less than perfect room and love my Von Schweikert VR1 monitors in the bookshelf. Great speakers!
My email with Oppo re: BDP-83SE as usb/PC dac
Forgive me for being somewhat skeptical but this is a player that plays every shiny disk available, has the highest rating for display of any players out there, has great audio output, superb customer service, ultra-fast loading times and you thin...
Need a VR1 replacement driver
Albert is a great guy. He helped me replace a driver on my VR-4JRs. Gave me his phone number. Give him a call.
Peachtree Decco vs. MF V-DAC
I agree with your choice of the VDAC plus an integrated. Better way to go.
Peachtree Decco vs. MF V-DAC
The Decco is a simple all=in=one solution that is economical and saves space. I use mine in the bedroom. I don't like the amp that much. Most of the posters have added an outboard amp at some time so that raises the cost. In my case it is in the b...
Buy LED, LCD or Plasma
Plasmas will be phased out eventually and California is trying to limit TV power usage, so plasmas will be targeted. That said, my Panasonic Plasma has the best picture I have ever seen, except for the Kuro. The Panasonic plasmas are substantially...
smallest footprint cd player
The Brits seem to like shallower components. I use a Njoe Tjoeb 4000 and a Creek, both 12" deep because they have to sit in a bookshelf 12" deep.
bedroom system need quality at low volume
"The whole stage" implies wide frequency range, to me. Small bookshelves will be limited in frequency range by definition. My wife actually preferred narrow floor standing speakers rather than bookshelves, so consider them if you can. Or, a small ...
VR-4jr spike upgrade
I have been very pleased with the soundocity outriggers. Adjustable, reasonably priced and solid.http://www.soundocity.com/products.html(No affiliation with the company)
How to go about cleaning my speakers?
I prefer a vacuum cleaner using the soft, long bristle uphostery brush just to get the dust off. That is, if you have to do anything at all. The sound won't change, just the appearance.
Pre amp section of marantz 7001 and onkyo 805
Have fun! Merry Christmas, I am sure you deserve it!
Pre amp section of marantz 7001 and onkyo 805
I love my 805 and use it for surround sound. I have tested it against my dedicated 2 channel with HT pass-through. It is excellent and I recommend it. The differences between these two units will be less than that of the source and the rest of the...
