| Bad preamp choice? We get Wal Mart same as you. The bigger question is -- why are you shopping for high end audio gear on Craigslist? Nothing but 5-disc all in ones and Alpine car decks | |
| Bad preamp choice? Dude, what were you THINKING?sorry, this kind of thread somebody's gotta call you out, eh? No idea, hopefully no buyer's remorse (insert animated figure hitting head against wall here)cheers, it's only audio. At least you can still have a V8... | |
| Sony Playstation 1 for a CD player ??? Like a good scotch, the PS1 goes down smooth...My observation is that it's a little flat on the soundstage, but you have to love the 'analog' sound. Haven't yet tried a modded one. Currently it's not in the rig, replaced by another little giant, t... | |
| system synergy Again, a long way of saying trial and error. If you have a piece of equipment you want to try to stick with, then you start with that and build from there. If you get the same brand associated components it would take away the trial and error part... | |
| Tubelike SS Power amp dang... | |
| DAC with the best midrange ever..... 2chnlben -- how much for those new ps units? | |
| DAC with the best midrange ever..... Man I gotta try me one of them MHDT's! | |
| system synergy You should be good from an impedance standpoint. It's a general rule. I don't think that system synergy is dependent at all on same-name components, it just makes the job "easier" if you elect to go all one brand. Of course, that's not half as fun... | |
| system synergy One obvious note is the output impedance of the pre to input impedance of the amp. Try to stay at least 10X the latter of the former.that said I think you can assume that one company would make their own gear sound good together. | |
| DAC with the best midrange ever..... Here's an interesting idea...I just picked up a minimax BBA to try as an impedance buffer between my preamp (with 5k ohm impedance out) and amps (47k in). Turns out it sounds much better between cdp and pre. The soundstaging and 'live' experience ... | |
| Do all Class D amps lack soundstage depth? Good luck | |
| DAC with the best midrange ever..... huge analog fan, best midrange ever, doesn't like the Benchmark...i'm thinking at the very least NOS and something with tubes. | |
| Do all Class D amps lack soundstage depth? When you find something you like, appreciate it.Oofer (Threads | Answers)thanks for the reality check. it's hard to leave well enough alone | |
| Do all Class D amps lack soundstage depth? 06-13-09: Br3098Tholt, when I said "try another amp" I meant to say try another brand/vendor of amp. I did not mean to suggest that you keep trying the same model/vendor over and over again. There will be a "right" combination, but it may take a w... | |
| Do all Class D amps lack soundstage depth? To answer the OP's question -- no, not all class D amps lack depth. I believe it's a compatibility issue he's experiencing with his gear.To answer his second question -- if there is a gear incompatibility, then 2 of the same incompatible amps will... |
