| I have seen some Interesting comments about Mcintosh lately testpilot, have you ever ridden in a Ferrari? It's impressive in the way a lot of high-end audio equipment is. One can actually "be into" cars and not just buy them for the imagined status upgrade. Certainly some people are in the latter catego... | |
| Most Effective Tweaks? Jerroot, I've done the same trick using lead shot (got it from a gun store) and then filling the gaps with sand. Not as cheap--about 40 dollars per stand, about 35 lbs. of shot per stand. | |
| The Beach Boys You're right, Sail on Sailor is a great track. I liked Surf's Up, Friends, Darlin' and a few other later tracks. But it's hard to forgive them for Kokomo and Do It Again (especially the former). | |
| Best Drum Solos I saw Roy Haynes do a solo during a lecture/demonstration in a university performance hall ca. 1980. It was quite impressive. | |
| Led Zeppelin sale... It's a promo, apparently rare. Not sold for its "playability" of sound. That's the way collectibles work. (Newsflash). | |
| Your picks of mediocre or lousy vocals with great musicians! Actually, I listen to Hendrix for the songs as well as everything else. He's not a great singer but he does okay, as does Clapton (I'm a fan of both). Little Wing has been covered so much I wish people would leave it alone. I think Manic Depres... | |
| Fed up with people making noise at classical shows I've been to a few places where it was understood that you don't make noise or do anything distracting while the performance was underway. Curiously, they were not classical music venues. My worst experiences have been at classical performances. | |
| Best recordings to demonstrate soundstage? +1 for the Nirvana. I don't know if MTV or the artists were responsible for the recording but that one and the Clapton Unplugged sound great IMO. I'd like to hear more of those, maybe will pick up the Dylan unplugged CD next. | |
| The Beach Boys Try the (1996?) stereo re-mix. It's more spacious, smooth, and musical to my ear. Beyond a certain point the BB stuff was not mixed to stereo. Brian was deaf in one ear. | |
| suggestions for small speaker. floorstander of bookshelf. Sounds like a room/environmental issue...perhaps you need something absorbent in your listening area. | |
| Your picks of mediocre or lousy vocals with great musicians! bdp24, I agree with your remarks about Richard's voice. I love it. But I've known people who didn't like his or Rick's voice. I am a huge fan of the Band (first two LP's especially). | |
| The Beach Boys actusreus, if you like God Only Knows then you might check out an earlier track, The Warmth of the Sun. Written on 11/22/63, it's a beautiful and moving song. It might even serve as an entry way to some of the pre-Pet Sounds material. Regardess... | |
| The Beach Boys This guy Brian Wilson went from scoring a local hit with Surfin' in 1962 to cranking out Pet Sounds four years later. How?Pet Sounds had four hit singles on it--Wouldn't it be Nice, Sloop John B., God Only Knows and Caroline, No. Another tune, an... | |
| Your picks of mediocre or lousy vocals with great musicians! ps--I absolutely love Levon's voice, whether singing, acting or just speaking in conversation. I'm from a small town in Southeast Texas and it doesn't get any twangier. I'm a hick from the sticks myself so I recognize another when I see one. It... | |
