Tubeguys:How much "tube sound" from tube players?
Interesting perspective, John.More along the lines of what is normally experienced by audiophiles, I think. Again I go against the grain when I say that I'd rather go with a solid state preamp and a tube power and than what is the more accepted ro...
Tubeguys:How much "tube sound" from tube players?
I have to agree with Grant (Tvad) 1000%. If you truly want tube sound, you NEED a tube power amplifier. If you are going to have tubes anywhere, I think it has to be the power amplifier.
What is the best redbook CD player for 6K to 8K?
Alex, thank you for your involvement in this thread!A couple of questions, if you would be so kind... The laser pickup and the transport are the parts likely to fail. What, in your estimation, is a reasonable life expectancy for these parts in 95%...
ss players vs tube players
Audioguy, you are correct! The tube output stage actually IS a preamp. Nevertheless, obviously, I stand by my tube versus solid state sound description. The 657 reflecting that...
Ohm Speakers, thoughts?
Amen, Sean!!!Once you hear the Ohms rebuilt as they were intended to be implemented, the results are quite staggering. It sounds more than obvious, but the voice coil being outside the gap of the magnet just doesn't really fly. Like having the pro...

Distortion, it's an unexpected and terrific thing the "Most Useless Audio Adjectives" list is taking on a life of its own. A lot of fun for sure. Now, does the solid state output of my Granite sound tubelike? That is the real question...Paul, I thi...
ss players vs tube players
Distortion, I deserve no credit for that great adjective, it was put forth two folks a lot brighter than me.I'm lucky enough to own a Granite 657 CD player, which features both tube and solid state output. And, as I put forth in the "Useless Adjec...
why can't I make a digital recording of a DVD?
"didnt there used to be a thread that stated the Samsung HD841 was trying to get pulled from the market and threatned with litigation because it did not block a copy transfer?"Oh, that little $99 jewel of a universal player I picked up at Best Buy...

Tremendous thread, Brainwater!Tom is a good friend of mine, and I can personally vouch for him being such a wonderful person and audiophile. I agree his devotion to audiophilia is both awe inspiring and motivating. My only complaint is trying to k...
Should we upgrade high end fuses?
"A wise man changes his mind. A fool, never."Edkoz, you've certainly earned my respect. For the record, I'll be trying them soon as well in my Jadis DA60. Each tube is fuse protected. Thinking about it logically (sorry if this isn't the typical sub...
DIY Interconnects review
JD, congratulations on putting forth such an exhausting body of work in search of the truths we all seek!!! In my estimation, this is among the finest two or three threads in the history of Audiogon. Boiling it all down has required me to take abo...
Jadis Orchestra Reference bias adjustment?
Though I must thank Denis for his unbridled kindness, the document I put together when I sold him my JOR was flawed. It seemed there must have been some confusion in the translation of the biasing instructions into English, and that is what I used...
anybody have/hear Wolcott with dynamic speakers?
I've also heard the Wolcotts with Wilson WATT3/Puppy2. Thought it was one of the best combinations I've been around that included the Wilsons.Have always longed to hear the Wolcotts with a pair of Merlins, Coincidents, JMlabs, Audio Physics, etc.
Jadis Orchestra Reference bias adjustment?
Robert, I sent you a few photos, illustrating the respective resistor. Let me know if it's not obvious. You just do this for each tube... Once you get the hang of it, you can almost do it in your sleep. In fact, I had my daughter do it for the pic...
