1000 budget for speakers and integrated - HELP
Buy a David Berning MicroZOTL and build a set of single driver speakers based on Fostex drivers. That is what I did for my $1k amp and speaker combo. I will lay odds its will make the SS amps mentioned seem like, well, SS amps. Why settle for SS w...
Battle of the "Davids"......Belles vs. Berning
I've never heard the Belles 350A amp. I would be very interested to hear how others respond to this shootout. My guess is that the Berning will get the nod. I am a tube freak so maybe I'm biased(Ha Ha!). Here's a chance for the SS contingent to sp...
Resonance problem with tonearm/cartridge
I would first check the impedance matchup between your cartridge and your phono section. There are causes for LF problems other than tonearm/cartridge. Check the owners manuals for both cartridge and preamp/phono section. The specs tables should h...
Would you like to know about Dunlavy mods?
Tom. the Zobel networks will not affect the time alignment at all. Ehider knows what he's talking about. If you Zobel the drivers, you will get much more linear results, particularly around the crossover points. The one that is probably the most c...
Amp shootout.....Tenor 75wi verses Berning ZH270
My Berning with NOS tubes sounded much better that with the stock JAN Phillips/Russian tubes. Glare was gone. Detail much better. Bass much improved. It was like a "new" amp upgrade. I have the MicroZOTL and put in Mullard NOS 6201(12AT7) and Sylv...
Amp shootout.....Tenor 75wi verses Berning ZH270
Once again, I remind you of the Seigfried. It is a better comparison. As I said before, the ZH270 is push pull with feedback, and the Seigfried 811/300B is single ended with no feedback. It has less power, but it is the top of the line Berning. So...
Why SACD,DVD-A are already DEAD
At Music Direct many titles are $17.99 for SACD.
Great speaker/SET amplifier matches....
Berning MicroZOTL w/ Fostex based transmission line single driver system.
Naim -- Fatiguing?
I had a full Linn/Naim system for 10 years and found it fulfilling and never fatiguing. At the time I worked in a high end audio shop, and we compared mamy amps including Perreaux, Threshold, Stax, Levinson, etc. The Naim consistently played cleane...
Help setting up cartridge VTA
Sorry, I never had a cartridge that used negative VTA. My apologies for the partial "bum steer".
I give UP Aerial 10Ts and Power Amps
If you want high volume don't get an 86db inefficient speaker. They can make aircraft carriers go pretty fast, but they need a nuclear reactor to do it. I am not sure of your problem, but efficient speakers of at least 93db/1watt and high power ha...
Help setting up cartridge VTA
Tony, I usually do it by ear. Set the tonearm/cartridge up so it is level when it is on the record. Then, remove it from the record, and raise the VTA adjustment very slightly. Make note of where you adjusted it to. Listen to the record. Play arou...
What's the best 7" & 8" woofers available?
Rbj. Your question is a very observant one. If you have followed my threads on the single driver subject, you will know that I have been using a network like the one you describe for my own speakers. Yes, the network does lower the impedance spike...
Amp shootout.....Tenor 75wi verses Berning ZH270
As an add to Allan's post, I think that the ZOTL design is the major reason why the amp can perform much higher than it costs. ZOTL allows much fewer parts and eliminates the real costly ones like the big$ output transformer and large banks of tub...
Amp shootout.....Tenor 75wi verses Berning ZH270
A hunka hunka Berning love.
