My speakers cost $14.850. My speaker cables (Kimber 8TC) cost $125, plus the cost of the WBT ends, (which are practically forever reuseable)
Like Power cords, on this front I am cheap.
I have zero whine about expensive anything.
The "T" word/ It is curious I have seen folks call out the "T" word over and over. I have yet to see a real live genuine TROLL thread. Sure some can seem a bit like it ’might have been’ someone jokingly acting a bit trollish. But not a real troll. So Why is calling troll so popular? Maybe because folks can’t use the "N" word anymore? Nor the "R" word? So they grab for a word they can sling out there and seem to be saying something insulting? IMO the "T" word should be banned.IT does NOTHING to progress any discussion, and is only used to insult someone else the person DOES NOT LIKE. Seems to have zero to do with any actual language, or words, or style. Just a way to hurl a general insult. Sort of like flinging offal or dead animal entrails.
The hobby is dying because the participates are aging out, and then dying. NO ONE is quitting listening to music because of any forum. They may stop posting! But not stop listening. Fer' sure.
I would like to insert a moment of calm. Breathe in.. savor the moment... breathe out.. relax... Breathe in... breathe out...Anyway, one comment I would like to toss in is gradual improvements.. Years go by... For example...
I spent a considerable sum back in 2010 when I retired. Bought speakers, amp preamp...
2 years goes by, during which I buy used Power conditioner, another used power conditioner. a few power cords, (low priced ones, but still aftermarket)
Year goes by, another year goes by.. Maybe even a third year goes by.. I decide finally time to buy some fancy IC. I try one looks interesting. OK, I buy a few more over the next six months.Year goes by, I want more, buy VERY expensive IC, kind of important on, (7 meters from pre to amp). Six month later I buy two more short ones. another year goes by, I buy yet two more of them.(I like them)2018 January.. I have five grand in the bank.. Think well, do I want new speakers? I think get 3.7i Magnepan to replace my 3.6??? After pondering for a month, I decide to just go for the big jump, no lateral move for me. I decide to by Magnepan 20.7s.Then after a few more months I buy a new SACD/DAC device. Then a few upgraded powercords, still cheap ones, considering, but spent $1,600 Enough. A few more months and I get the urge to buy a few fancy duplex. Notice I am on a roll here, shades of 2010.
Oh yes, did you notice. NO new Speaker cables?
Now I know several folks will scorn me for NOT buying some, and the other half dozen would scorn if I did. Do I care? Breathe in... relax... breathe out... Are we having fun yet?The point I was slowly and steadily Breathe in.... Breathe out... making is TIME. Most folks spend a very great deal of time gathering all the audio junk they possess. If you noticed, in my years, one odd purchase, a $3,200 interconnect. This was a big deal for me, but it was worth it. Maybe for someone else it might have been a $10,000 pair of speaker cables? Maybe it was the only purchase in several years? Just a consideration.
My mousetrap was just building a WALL. The mice would wander.. I made a 4" tall cardboard wall across the floor, except at one wall, were I placed an empty standard mousetrap. The wall made the mouse step on/over on the trap. BLAM SNAP! dead mouse(s).That was in my last residence. The current place I had killed over 40 mice in 3 years.. Now they chose to annoy some other person less interested in murdering them. The caretaker seemed to not care, I even nailed mice to his door, handed him live ones in a jar. Nope.
As for wires.... Jeesh like no one KNEW they were buying wires? Who would have guessed? Maybe they thought they were buying "Audio Jewelry"? or Classic Action Figures? or Fine Art? or 'Investing in Gold"
Anyone else wanting to ask for an emoji ban?And that the 'sheet' emoji should automatically get the post deleted.I am 100% for that solution.
Cut all the fluff off the bird?

I have to disagree that cables plateau in the hundreds.. I gladly paid $1,100 for several pairs (Kimber KS) and $3,200 for one important seven meter pair.(also Kimber KS)  and yes they are better than the piles I bought at the $360 price point.(Cardas Parsec). Took me time to cough up the money, since at heart I am a cheapskate. As far as speaker cables go ... I am still holding the line at Kimber 8TC.
Maybe someday when I have more money left in the bank than makes sense, I will splurge on some fancy speaker cables. ($3K tops, I PROMISE)
Well, I spent $3000 on just duplex AC outlets. And that was on sale, Retail they would have been $5000. just for a small pile of AC outlets very similar to what you can buy for $5 each at Menards. But these were genuine audiophile outlets....
I must be a cricket?
I am not so sure. If you own $170,000 speakers. or $250,000 speakers.. Spending $20,000 on sets of biwires might make sense.
I do not get the notion that anyone else can whine about what I spend on ANYTHING. This is not a Socialist country. You do not get to report me to the authorities for having more than you! If you are envious, then go get a better job! If some rich person buys a $300,000 pair of speakers, or earrings, or speaker cables... I would say great! glad you like them. Not whine about it.
