After a (weeks) worth of listening...

What lp would you recommend the most to other members here?

I belong to several music threads and have gained much knowledge and have just as much to share..

Here is a chance to post what you've imagined is your (one) most enjoyable moment/lp of the past week of listening.

Having to choose, right now, and getting this thread started, I'd choose..

Gary Wright "The Dream Weaver"

reubent,

Thanks... I was sweating bullets for a while.. ha ha! It was really a "no brainer". I was reading the lp cover, Ronnie Montrose played on one song!!! David Foster contributed as well. Forgot about that.
rpeluso,

I love "Pushin' Against a Stone"! Thanks for the reminder of her new lp!

raymonda,

For some reason I've not auditioned this one yet, but I will! Thanks.

(I'm putting together my list now, hope you all are?  So much music, so little time, as they say.)
Here's my initial recommendation. For any died -in-the-wool classic rock fans, I'll ask for some leeway? There will be plenty to come. Let's have an eclectic palate here?

The Hooters "Nervous Night". This was the band for Cindy Lauper's "She's So Unusual". Early eighties. Here are some superbly crafted songs for that period in time that still hold up today.

photodusty,

I perceive any positive comment as a step in the right direction! Thanks.

Look forward to your Spoon impressions.
Once I started to really think about my top pick, I knew what it would be. I still wanted to listen through several that I felt would be contenders.

It finally came down to two lps.

Blue Oyster Cult "Fire of Unknown Origin". IMO, a great lp from start to finish. My copy has a bar code, (1981) so I’m going to look for an original pressing?

Top pick:

Red Rider "Neruda". If you are like me...in my past when I loved an lp and it had just one tick or pop, I’d buy another copy just in case... "Neruda" passed that test. It never fails to provide listening pleasure on each listen. When I remember I haven’t heard it for a while, a big smile comes on my face as I put it on the tt, cause’ I know I’m in for a treat. I can think of no other artist/lp that seems to borrow on this music. It really is an original. Highly recommended!
just removed my cc info.

sorry this happened in the midst of this involving thread!
mattz,

Tried to audition on Amazon, could not. Thanks for the recommendation!

I already have my (next weeks) picks in mind..
I did want to say, thanks for all who have posted. It's coming along very nicely!
2channel8,

Thank you for contributing! Never heard of LJB until now. Sounds a lot like John Hiatt! And that's a "good thing"!

crazyeddy,

TY!
(I sent an email to the (powers that be) two weeks ago about some visual issues on my end. NEVER heard back on a fix!)

jmac7,

Al Stewart was an exceptional artist who's musical (CHART LIFE) was too short!

Santana "3"?.... the one with the human object floating through space.

They were on fire!!!!!
My neighbor gave me a couple of boxes of his "lifetime" vinyl. Included in those boxes were several great titles. After cleaning, I've heard some really great stuff I had planned on buying. Out of the ones I've heard, I'm recommending two now...

Taj Mahal  "S/T" original pressing
John Prine  "S/T"  original pressing
Not everyone's cup of tea....

If you're looking for a demo lp ..here it is...

Blake Mills  "Heigh Ho"....nice...real nice!
I have 3 this week.

(1) A blast from the past, Steppenwolf "Live, at the Matrix". This has some very good songs. An imperfect recording as it’s heavy on the right channel and the vocals come solely from the right. Good to hear it again.
(2) My original copy of Iron Butterfly "Heavy". The sonics are extremely good. One of rocks great singers here as well.
(3) I just scored a EJ "Madman Across the Water" on DCC. Wow! Now I can listen and enjoy all of the greatness I had been missing.
@2channel8,

Thanks for the Sharon Van Etten post. I’ve got my copy out for another listen.

rockyboy,

I admit to never hearing "Ball" yet.

"Metamorphosis" has always been one of my personal (best) lps ever! I own three copies, one is a WLP!
Here's my close 2nd choice...

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians  "Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars"

It was great then and still hols up well now!
@reubent,

I listened to it again last weekend...agreed! I don't own one bad sounding Doobie Brothers lp. They were always consistently well recorded.

Here’s my pick, one I haven’t listened to in at least 25 years...

John Fogerty "Centerfield". The sonics are extremely good and what a voice!
@2channel8,

Your HDCD counts. (I listen only to vinyl.)

I don't own "Rearview Mirror" so I cannot respond.
Bad Company  "Burnin' Sky". My all time favorite BC lp! I'm listening to my promo/DJ timing strip copy. I think it's my best sounding BC lp as well.
+1 @reubent, @ghosthouse ,

I recently listened again. One of his great lps for sure. I've always been a big fan of "Mutations".
@ghosthouse ,

There are so many bands/music I have yet to discover and Moby is one of them.
@reubent ,

You should try and find the lp. It is a reference recording!

Happy Listening!
@bdp24 ,

When anyone writes such a memorable musical moment, I am in awe!

I bought my LV (lp) when it first came out.. it's a UK (import). Sounds fantastic!
Pure teenage rock n' roll!

Still holds up as their (best to me) effort..

Def Leppard  "High'n' Dry".... give it another spin...
@bdp24, @ reubent,

I have a retraction. We were discussing "Little Honey" recently. I thought it was on this thread but, here goes. It was not IMO, her best in terms of SQ and it was very noisy. I remember reubent commenting on this as well. I just put it through a very slow, extended US cleaning. It really, really helped, I now enjoy listening to it. (If I were to pick it apart.. it is somewhat compressed and more inconsistent song by song compared to the majority of her lps I own). It is pressed off-center as so many lps are these days as well.

US cleaning is the best thing that’s happened to the end user of vinyl in a while.
Beth Hart/Joe Bonamassa  "Don't Explain" (lp)

This lp was my first introduction to both artists. I liked it then (it's been several years since I've listened to this one)...it prompted me to pursue Beth's output.

Listening today..wow..... It's an almost perfect lp. They compliment one another almost better than any two artists' colaborations I can think of. To top it off, the vinyl is quiet, the sonics are extremely engaging. You have the warmth associated with an analog recording. Very, very nice. A strong recommendation!
I forgot about (this) thread I started!

Eddie Money " Life For The Taking":

HELL yeah.
Father John Misty "Fear Fun".

Good to hear this one again. If you're familiar with him, you may like to listen to this one again. He doesn't take himself so seriously here.
Amanda Shires  "My Piece Of Land".

Maybe her most accessible lp and definitely her best in terms of SQ!

………………………

@blueranger

I own an excellent sounding SACD of the "Theme From Shaft".
Well I’m going to have to say...

Rory Gallagher "Against the Grain". RIP.

Thanks to nutty for introducing me to this great artist. I only wish I had been aware of him much earlier in this life.
