AN-E-SPE-HE Advice

I have  moved and my audio room is smaller , 11.5 ft wide x 18 long ft x 7.3” ceiling.

I have Coincident Total Victory IV Loudspeakers but the width of the room is affecting the sound.

I have made corning acoustic tiles which help but the sound is not as good as it should be.

I am in the process of ordering AudioNote AN-E-SPE HE .

I have 4 usable corners and I feel the AN Loudspeakers will be a better match for my room.

The rear of the speakers will be parallel to the short wall.

I have Herron Preamp and Phono and was wondering if they mate well with AN Loudspeakers .

I also have (3) 300B amps , Frankenstein II ( 8 watts ), Wavelength Triton Blue ( 15 watts )and Canary 330 MK II ( 26 watts ) .

I know AN Loudspeakers sound best with AN Gear but if possible I would like to use my current gear if possible but if I need to sell it I will.

I am hoping to have a system that lets me enjoy the music and I have read many good things about AN Speakers.

Any suggestions about the AN Loudspeakers and associated gear will be helpful.

Thanks,

Hi abill,
Congrats on your incoming speakers!  I just dropped a pair of AN/Jlx's into my system a few weeks ago. That's a great stable of amps you have and any one of them would probably be a nice match with your new E's. Don't get to hung up on having an all AN system any well designed tube amp will make your E's sing. I am driving my J's with PP EL34 stereo amp putting out 17 wpc in class A triode mode and they sound great together. Your Herron preamp and phono are very neutral sounding and should work just fine. Try experimenting with your various amps and see what combo sounds best to you.

My amp and preamp are both custom pieces made my Deja Vu Audio they are the AN dealer where I bought my speakers. One way to maybe bump up the level of synergy is with cables, I did pick up a pair of AN Lexus speaker cables, that's the same wire that's used in my J's internally. So perhaps look into trying a set of AN SPE speaker cables? The best advice I can give you really is once you get the speakers run them with the gear you already have and just get used to the sound. That will give you a better jumping off point for further changes. Good luck!

Jond ,

Thank you for the input .

I am hoping my herron pre and phono will sound good .

They sound very good with my Coincident speakers.

I will eventually sell one or two amps after the speakers burn in.

The Franks and Wavelength are my favorite amps with the coincidents.

I have a difficult anything .

The Total Victorys are nice sounding speakers but they need a little more room .

Erik,

Thank you for the suggestion but I made corner traps and side panels .

It improved the sound but the speakers are too large for the room .

If the room was at least a  couple feet wider I would keep them.

I think getting the best speakers for your room size is very important .

I used to own AN silver E (kit) and loved them in the corners about 1" away from the walls and almost at a 45 degree angle! The low bass was a bit strong but there was a terrific immersive wall of sound with great detail and tone. Driven by AN Soro and TT1.

this is a fun way to listen

btw 13 x 22 x 8 room size

enjoy!

Has anyone listened to the AudioNote Alnico Drivers ?

Are they worth the extra cost ?

Abill

Abill I have not heard them sorry may I ask how much is the extra cost? Also I should mention when I was ordering my J's Vu recommended the original paper drivers over the new hemp drivers. He said he, and several of his customers had found the hemp drivers "a little bit dry in the bass" and had replaced the hemp drivers on a few pairs of E's with the paper.

Jond,

Thanks for reply.

Who is Vu ?

I heard this today from a company that sells AN Gear and he said the same thing .

He has some people order the hemp drivers to upgrade their speakers and they ended returning because of the lack off bass and a bit dry.

I'm delaying my purchase until I research it.

I have a verbal cost the Alnico upgrade drivers are $5000 + .

I won't get that upgrade.

I would appreciate any links that document the hemp driver issue.
Or any links with AN Speaker info.

Hi abill,
Perhaps my bias but I believe that in terms of musical presentation and engagement it’s hard to beat a high quality well implemented paper driver.

I agree with Jond, you have very high quality electronics and I cannot forsee any reason they wouldn’t mate in fine fashion with the Audio Note speakers. I do feel that your Coincident TV IV speakers require more space to really breath. You’ll be fine.

Abill sorry Vu is the owner and proprietor of Deja Vu Audio in Mclean VA and where i bought my J's and a lot of my other gear.

Hi Charles,

I've been using the TV IV for 5 years , I hate to see them go but I have finally come to the realization that I can only do so much with my room .

I'm trying to avoid any unforeseen issues before getting the AN Speakers and enjoy the music.

I have been told that all the AN high efficiency speakers use the hemp drivers. I'm research it , it could be the older AN speakers need a different crossover to solve this issue.

thanks for the input.

And Abill I don't think its an issue with the hemp drivers it's just a matter of personal preference. I went with the paper drivers on Vu's advice because I trust him completely, he's got amazing ears and has never once steered me wrong.

A little update.

Today I listened to a pair of AN-E / Spe-HE with my Wavelength amps and the sound was heavenly .

Plenty of bass , nice sound stage , at 60 db still enjoyable with low level detail and at 90 db no distortion .

Very happy with the demo .

Even the dealer agreed the wavelength amps sounded better than the OTO amp but the wavelength amps cost more.

Part of it could be mono blocks versus integrated amp.

I haven't ordered the speakers yet , I am hoping someone could comment on a comparison of this speaker and the next model up.

The Lexus Signature with the external crossover box.

I can't find anyone that has them in stock , no way would I order them without a demo .

Not quite sure I can afford them.

Any comments anyone ??

Abill

Abill glad you got a chance to listen and no surprise your Wavelength amps sounded great. It's going to be hard to fine the Lexus Signature with external crossover as you are discovering. It's a very expensive speaker and most dealers just don't have a demo of it. I will say this I trust AN and I am sure its a big step up, since you can always upgrade your speakers down the road perhaps get the ones you can afford now and live with the sound. You can always upgrade down the road. I assume you are working with a dealer do they have any advice on the matter?
