CD player sampling incompatability?
I have a cheap, but reasonably new DVD player that I use also as a CD player in one of my systems. I've just purchased the 40th Anniversary reissue of King Crimson's Islands album, which has a 5.1 surround sound mix on a DVD disc. When I try to play it, the player will sometimes not start at all, or play with an intermittent crackling/dropout kind of situation. According to the packaging, the 5.1 mix has a 96 kHz sampling rate. On the 40th Anniversary reissue of In the Court of the Crimson King, which I also have, the 5.1 mix has a 48 kHz sample rate, and this disc plays fine. Do I have a defective Islands DVD disc, or is my DVD player not able to cope with this technology? Thank you guys.
