Has anyone heard of or heard the Aeries 1 monitor?

I saw a pair at a friends house and listened to them - they were better than OK but not great in his set-up. The prce was fair at $1200 (at least I think it was OK) based on his purchase price of $3k about 8-years ago.

Has anyone heard of the company or better yet, the speakers?
