I don't think you'll be able to ID the cables. Any company like AQ or TARA would have writing on the jacket. They look like good quality bulk. Also, depending on how big the company is, and who they sell to, the same exact cable may be offered in different color jackets, so the dark blue doesn't necessarily mean anything. If you are looking for something similar to replace it, Canary would be a good option. Its not expensive and its probably even a little better quality. |
It certainly isn't an Audioquest cable. clueless myself. |
Multi stranded? GAG! Not AQ that's for sure. |

Actually, AQ does make some stranded cables. |
Based on Joes description of the cable in question they did not make any colored thick like the indigo "stranded" cable design. Any multi stranded stuff would have been sold bulk on a spool Not in 6 or 8 foot runs. |

Actually it looks exactly like the original Audioquest Midnight, from the early '90's I believe. The original, not the + or '3' iterations. I had a pair of those in my system for years. Same cotton insulation, same dark blue outer cover, same looking conductors. |
....very stiff and a bear to work with I might add. |
Here's a link with a pic from when I sold mine http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?118952-Speaker-cable&highlight=audioquest+midnight |
I know for sure that its not Midnight. Midnight is solid core and the OP's cable is stranded. Also, its labeled AQ Midnight non stop down the length of the cable. Too bad for the OP its not Midnight, its a very nice cable. |
Midnight is quite a few strands in each conductor of solid core. |
.....Meaning they weren't wafer thin strands. The original Midnight had strands exactly like his pic. Maybe the later + and hyperlitz versions didn't. |

Its not Midnight. The OP's picture has 4 internal multi-strand conductors. 2 red and 2 black. The origional AQ Midnight looked similar but it wasn't the same. All of the solid core conductors, while smaller than typical, each had their own jacket. And yes, they were not configured like later versions of midnight. The strands were braided similar to how Kimber's look. Its easy enough to verify. Just call AQ and have them look at the OP's pic. |
Some of my AQ cable has faded over time, and the letters faded. Some have darkened in color for some reason. Could be Type 4. PT |
Type 4 has 4 solid core conductors. |

I'm not going to belabor on this any more. I owned the cable for years and re-terminated it many times. I am intimately familiar with it. Each strand on my version, and the one the OP has shown in the pic (which matches my pic BTW....did you look?) is absolutely not individually insulated. Each insulated conductor is comprised of around 12-15 fairly thick strands. And as a matter of fact,I did did email Audioquest on this cable trying to find more about it because it didn't match their later versions with the + signs or the hyperlitz. It was made so long ago the guy I got wasn't even familiar with it. |
I was a dealer at the time when those cables were current. The OP's cable was not the same as the original Midnight. If you can find some old sales literature or a box, AQ always shows a cross section of their cables. The link to your pic was no good. Its very likely that you either had a fake set, or its possible you may have had a set of demo cables. During the design process, AQ makes up test cables and gives them out to dealers and people they know, so they can get some input. Even if it was labeled Midnight, It still could be a test cable. The Midnight jacket may have been the right size for whatever they were making up. That would easily explain why they are having a hard time matching one of their production cables to your pic. |
Did you mean the link didn't work or that the pic doesn't help? Here's the link and I did test it but you have to cut and paste it of course. http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?118952-Speaker-cable&highlight=audioquest+midnight |

I just tried it and got this message: To view this thread or threads in this forum your post count must be 100 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily.
It looks like the address isn't bad. I guess I don't have all the requirements you need to access where your pic is. |
