Need recommendations for inexpensive power cord

I’ve never used after market power cords and am considering buying a couple.  I have some questions:

Considering the astronomical price power cords go for, is there any point getting one or two in a lower price range?
At what price point do power cords start to make a difference in your system?
I have two monoblock NuForce class D 160 watt amps.  Is this where they should go?
Can someone recommend an inexpensive power cord that can make a difference?

Hi, You should check out the "Magic Power Cord" from Signal Cable.

http://www.signalcable.com

These cables are not expensive and they make a BIG difference. Also, the guy there is named Dave, I think, and he is awesome to work with...:-)

Frank at Signal does indeed make excellent power cords and cables.
i would also highly recommend...particularly if you are using mono blocks, the Art Audio cables and the SE-1 model. A superb power cord that I am now using with my Jadis mono blocks. What’s more, these cables are also very affordable.
Rob Fritz at Art Audio is also very easy to work with....as is Frank at Signal. All great products and great service from both companies...no wrong here.
daveyf:

Checking out their website I was unable to find the SE-1 model power cord at Art Audio Cables.
There are lots of power cords available used at very reasonable prices. I would suggest: Kimber, DH Labs, Zu Cables,  Shunyata, Supra, just to name a few. It pays to experiment.
You might take a look at Cullen cables as well. Brand new they are very affordable and well built.
Cannot beat with a stick. Analysis Plus Power Oval. Hollow oval braided copper conductor, shielded and with Wattgate connectors. 5 feet long. Less than $100 on the Internet. Problem solved!

PS audio Power Punch since discontinued beats my more expensive Audioquest NRG 10 and Nordost Brahma cords on the class d W4S ST 500.  The Pangea cords were not even close.
The Power Punch cord is also my choice on my BAT VK 55 which draws a lot of triode class A power.
I think Cullen may have made the PS cords so that may be a good source for a new cord.
Actually no, I just looked at the box.  It is listed as a xStream Power Punch engineered in Boulder Colorado and made in China.  I paid 40.00 on a close out sale.
If you can find a pair of these, I think you would be impressed.
I've had great results with oyaide tunami cable & neotech (neotec?) connectors. You can assemble a 6' power cord for less tan $200. I buy the wire from Chris at VH audio & the connectors from Parts Connexion. They do take a couple hundred hours to fully break in though.
Transparent makes some very good inexpensive cords, often overlooked due to their super expensive stuff...
What is consider expensive and what is cheap cost wise?  The Cable Co. could be a good place to look. Audio Advisor has cheap priced after mark cables. I do not know if they are worth it, but you could try.
Enjoy Pete
I'm using the Atlas 4d power chord extremely happy with the performance . It's super vfm , I've tried many & Atlas was the one that added minimum to the sound. Just seems to improve on the drive.
Power chords like anything are system dependant & ofcourse your taste. Guess you should get a couple to play around From your audiophile friends before buying in.
All the best sorting it out.
Cheers

£38 for 1m cable with sonar quest iec. Twisted 12? AWG Double shielded and occ copper.  I bought 4. They take 100 hours to burn in. Wish I had made this upgrade years ago. Transformed by system.
@rvpiano, It depends on what you consider a lower price range?

I can highly recommend Furutech Nano Series power cords made by Mike Kay Of Audio Archon in Illinois. Audioarchon.com

Called the Blue Power cord and would be made with your choice of connecting ends at whichever price works for you. I would phone him and discuss your needs and he would be able to suggest what he thinks would work best for you.

Depending on your selection you could be talking around $250 or more per power cord. I own several and they do perform better than power cords I've purchased costing $1000 or more.

There is more to making power cords than buying wire and putting a male and female end on it, such as using Furutech Nano Liquid contact enhancer ($180 for a very small bottle) and other secrets they have. This is why I suggest having Mike make them for you, I know he doesn't cut any corners and guarantees his work.

I should also point out there are other stores out there that could make you the same power cord for you.

Good luck and best wishes to your endever.

I would is also checkout Audio Sensibility cables. They use OCC copper and sound very good for the money.  I tried several cables like Signalcable and Pangea but I think these are much better.  I suspect the difference is the OCC cooper used. I’ve had good experience with art audio cables as well.
I’ve decided to go another route which will solve more than one problem.
I got a very good buy on a $1400 power conditioner which has four sockets, including two dedicated to my monoblocks:
Isotek Orion Power line Conditioner with Isotek Elite 5 foot Power cord.
Hopefully this will do the job.

Again, Thank you for all your suggestions!
I would recommend building your own power cords using the Furutech.
Typically its best not to use power conditioners for amps.

I second the suggestion about power cords from Signal Cable. I've had 3 or 4 in the past couple years. They're very solid construction, sound good (as much as any competently designed & constructed power cables do), and are inexpensive.

I also use Signal Cable's interconnects throughout my desktop system. Once again, very well built, good sound, and very inexpensive compared to some of the big-$$ products out there.

The owner's name is Frank. He's extremely helpful.

The Isotek power conditioner and power cord have made a strong improvement to my system: lower noise floor, better bass, better imaging and sound staging.
Well worth the $400 price I bought it for used.
I have been using Pangea and especially noticed the difference with the AC-9 into my C-J classic 60.  I also took the time to run a dedicated 12 gauge Romex line with upgraded power outlet in the house.  If you are able all made a big difference of getting good power from the source of my breaker box.
Upgraded power cords are still going to improve the sound of your music even with the use of your  Isotek power conditioner. The question is which piece of equipment should you try in on? I say this because you have not said what other components you are using and I'm guessing from your original post that you are only using stock power cords on all your compoients.
I’m using two of the high power Isotek’s outlets for the monoblocks, and the other two outlets have the DAC and the transport.  The power cord to the Isotek is very high quality.
That being said, I like the change it’s made already.
Make your own ,
Buy Furutech plugs, IRC connectors and bulk power cable,
You'll get one of the best for the cost of a lesser pre-made one.

@rvpiano what power cords are on your Dac and Transport?
While we are at it (if you don't mind) which Dac and Transport are you using?
I have stock power cords on the DAC and transport, but I’m plugging them into the Isotek power conditioner with the Elite power cord.
Components are the Schiit Gungnir Multibit DAC and the Cambridge CXC  transport (or sometimes the Oppo 105D used as transport which has good synergy with the Gungnir.)
I am surprised not to see Ice Age power cords mentioned here. They are well made and relatively inexpensive. They are cryo treated and come in various configurations carbon/ copper, copper/copper, silver/copper, etc. I have the copper/silvers on my Martin Logan Vistas and the copper/copper on my Marantz SACD player. A significant improvement all around, but the copper/copper on the Marantz was really surprising: better bass, a more dimensional sound and a deeper sound stage. Highly recommended for less than $150.
@rvpiano , Hi side question . I have a Schiit Bifrost Uber and a Musical Fidelity transport . And also an older Oppo . I’m cost driven . Are you satisfied with the Gumby ? I listen to Tidal and a few CD’s . Second , with what I have now , Gumby or Oppo first ? BTW , I run the Silnote cords ($99) . Just ordered the entry level digital cord from Signal . Saw it mentioned quit a bit in this thread . If I can tell a difference , I’ll get the upgrade one. Thanks for any advise .  Mike B , Clovis, Ca.
@rvpiano, good move on the Isotek power conditioner with the Elite power cord. All I'm suggesting is that if you should ever want to upgrade the power cord or cords to your Dac, Transport or Oppo I believe you will hear an additional improvement in your music.
The Gungnir is definitely superior to the Oppo by itself.  But I found if I used the Oppo as a transport in conjunction with the Gumby it produced better results than with my Cambridge transport. Strange.  I’m still experimenting though.
I can highly recommend the Gungnir.
In my experience Power Cord upgrading was far more effective upgrade than a power conditioner (a PS Audio  Dectet) which I returned to the retailer. I have since made my own power cords. Not difficult, not expensive and big improvement to SQ.
