I have always thought the same thing with mine. I should email Jeff Wells and ask him why he did it like this. I would prefer it not to be this way for the same reason you state. Lost or dead remote.

Odd standby function on Wells Majestic (sounds great, btw)
Hi everyone,
Just got a Wells Majestic Integrated amp. Right out of the box it sounds great. However, there is an odd function - when you turn it on it automatically goes into standby. The only way to get out of standby it to use the remote. So, if the remote battery is dead or if you misplace it, there is no way to use the amp! Seems like a very odd design. Hopefully, the sound will convince me to overlook the potential hassles.
