Running analog through a DAC? (KEF LS50 Wireless)

Hello everyone,

Looking into possibilities for an office system, and the KEF LS50 powered speakers seem like a good solution for my space.  Getting great reviews and has various inputs.  However, the analog RCA input (along with all the other inputs) is run through the 24/192 DAC in the speakers.  Have any of you ever run a phono amp through a conversion to digital and then through a DAC?  I'm wondering if the sound from my turntable would end up with a digital sound signature or whether the sonic characteristics of the analog signal would be reasonably well preserved.  A couple of the reviews mention trying a turntable with them and enjoying the sound, but they don't go into any detail about how they actually compare to a full analog sound.

Thanks, Scott

Scott,

Are you ready for what your question is about to unleash? Here comes the masses!!!!!!!!

Quick answer is, yes! Conversion from one source to another will always have an impact on the signal. In some cases it can be large and in others it might only be noticed by folks with ears like dogs. Also, it can add a preferred coloring to the sound or it can create sonic degradation. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

That being said, I would highly doubt that in your office system that you will notice any difference, or, if you did, it would be an issue.

Sometimes the lack of wires is more of a priority than getting that very last 1% out of your system. So, go for it and enjoy your favorite music while multi-tasking other life's responsibilities.
I've got a Technics SL1210 with a Shure M44 cartridge running through a Project phono stage into the RCA on my LS50Ws (really as a temporary measure until I get round to fixing my DIY phono project which I expect to improve on the sound quality).

I think it sounds very impressive and the vinyl "warmth" translates very well.

I count myself as being a digital audio "sceptic" until fairly recently.
