Tekton Double Impacts

Anybody out there heard these??

I have dedicated audio room 14.5x20.5x9 ft.  Currently have Marantz Reference CD/Intergrated paired to Magnepan 1.7's with REL T-7 subs.  For the vast majority of music I love this system.  The only nit pick is that it is lacking/limited in covering say below 35 hz or so.  For the first time actually buzzed the panel with an organ sacd. Bummer.  Thought of upgrading subs to rythmicks but then I will need to high pass the 1.7's.  Really don't want to deal with that approach.

Enter the Double Impacts.  Many interesting things here.  Would certainly have a different set of strengths here.  Dynamics, claimed bottom octave coverage in one package, suspect a good match to current electronics.

I've read all the threads here so we do not need to rehash that.  Just wondering if others out there have FIRST HAND experience with these or other Tekton speakers

Thanks.

J Carcopo does your SET sound PHAT? Does it have PRAT? Or do cymbals splat?
I love the idea of using SET's as super expensive, low powered , resonant tone control and harmonics generators. Yay.

Just how much did your SET cost? I hope, at least, that it's pretty. They have the nice glow of self-consuming gain devices?

So, do these speakers NEED a resonant harmonic generator to sound proper? They dont work on clean amplifiers?
Darn, you gave it away too soon!

Yes, I have listened to earlier iterations of J's amplifiers. They had a very lovely, melt into the couch, sound. But only when the speakers ports were stuffed with audophile grade socks!

Kdude66, what was your fav SS amp of the bunch? I take it that preamp is your go-too preamp?
Hi Mac48025, I read post where the guy was talking about up front shoutyness on his SS amps. Was that a desirable quality he was seeking?

And all razzing aside, I was one of the factors for Jcarcopo to buy the DI's. The design looked like a winner. And, yes, I fully expect them to sound just fine with good SS.
Yes, the "missing transmission line " effect. Good thing we had those socks! And crown moulding!

I have had the pleasure of listening to some fine SET amps, Jcarcop's included. And have enjoyed them very much.  And when talking tubes, I am ONLY ever interested in SET designs; push pull tube amps do nothing at all for me.

But, I favor good SS designs these days. My comments, while phrased to be annoying, were true. The good things our ear likes on tube/transformer amplifers are a function of tiny eq (sub half db), some resonant behavior, and the spectra of the distortion which all add flavoring to what might be sterile sounding digital music.  I just prefer to do that in software, where I can turn if off if it's not in the service of the music (For instance, if the album was mastered with all sorts of tube gear and or digital plugins. In that case, too much of a good thing.) And, of course, because I love the challenge of finding just WHAT it is we are hearing that we like! Turns out that the great mixing and mastering engineers have known for decades.
I too have found that calling on the phone works better than email. I have  found that smoke signals and carrier pidgeons are also problematic.
@ grannyring...here, this is what you need to find the inductance values of the inductors. This is much less than the cost of ONE mundorf capacitor.  http://www.ebay.com/bhp/inductance-meter
@  grannyring that was my taked on foil inductors too. I had to  zobel it to deal with its internal capacitance. Easiest, of course, to just buy a less expensive coil that does not do that. Live and learn.

@ charles1dad It's been my personal experience that solen tend to sound "misty" and just plain off to me compared to other good, cost effective, film caps. I don't like using them. A guy that worked in the capacitor building business once told me what was going on, but I have long since forgotten what the explanation was. Old age is a bitch.

Ahh...does anyone realize that nothing like that is used at the recording end? They use bog standard digital cables from the likes of Mogami and Belden, with objectively good specs and performance. Digital transmission is not a Great Mystery, it is well understood, and, as evidence, we transmit digital data across the solar system now. I don't think that audio is the leading edge here.
This by the way is not to take anything at all away from the great speakers here!

Of course, professional studios do not use USB at all, so, there is that I guess.
Actually, jcarcopo won't be satisfied for too long. It's not in his nature. He will soon pursue other speakers and gear like a new drug! I don't think he will remain Faithful....
Well, those goodies, the pass and the JBL 9800SE were not exactly free....There was a bit of work involved.
He has always been faithfull in his heart to the Diavolo, even if he DID leave her for a decade...
Guys, I will be doing my very BEST to tempt jcarcopo into changing gear, as a proper devil should!
