Tidal settings - Forced Volume question

Tidal has reconfigured the interface. It now displays options for settings in a different manner. Previously, in the HiFi mode, the digital volume bar consistently displayed 50% across. It could be changed manually to louder or softer. With the new interface, there’s an option for forced volume. With forced volume, the digital volume bar automatically pins to 100% across - the loudest setting. Does anybody know if Tidal is adding bits when the volume bar is more than 50% - or losing bits when lowering the volume below 50%?   My DAC is standard Redbook: 16/44.1.

I’m assuming that adjusting the volume via the preamp is the best way to maintain quality.   See Settings - Streaming - Sound Output - (More Settings)
