Tube amp - which speaker tap to use?

Jolida 302b w/ 4 ohm or 8 ohm speaker taps paired w/ Focal.JMlab Chorus 714s speakers (91 dB - 2.83V/1m) with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms but a impedance of 4 ohms.

Which tap should I use and why? Can I try both and just use the best sounding or is there a technical reason to use one or the other?

Thanks.

Can I try both and just use the best sounding one?

Thanks.

That's exactly what I would recommend that you do.

CORRECTION...initial post should read "...with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms but a MINIMUM impedance of 4 ohms."

John,

Thanks for the reply - so there is no technical reason to use one or the other? I can't hurt anything, can I? Thanks.
There may be no technical reasons not to try both, but there are technical reasons that will affect the sound. First, power delivery will be better with one of the taps, ie more power into the load, than with the other. Second, the 4 ohm tap will have half the output impedance, which means twice the damping factor, and so will interact with the load differently, affecting both frequency response, due to the voltage divider interaction with varying impedance of the load with frequency, and bass quality due to more damping.
I can't hurt anything, can I? Thanks.

No, you won't hurt anything. Just pick the one that sounds best to you.
