Hey @Jea48. I saw that thread but don’t know where it went. I had an experience in the last couple days where my browser(s) got redirected by a "search anywhere" piece of malware and it was a real pain to get rid of on Chrome for Mac. Malwarebytes didn’t purge it and I wound up buying the somewhat controversial ’Combo Cleaner’ which is marketed as ’free’ but only to the extent of telling you it has identified the threats and risky files- you then have to pay for the software to show you the "virus" results and purge the offending code. (’God forbid your restaurant should burn down- our simple protection program will eliminate that risk--My colleague here will stop by periodically to pick up an envelope if you know what I mean. A real pleasure to meet you and I mean that’).
It seemed to work (fingers crossed), but has an additional feature set that I liked- it de-dupes files, extracts and eliminates stray bits of coding that remain after you think you’ve removed out of date apps, and identifies junk on your computer that you can elect to eliminate to free up space. No, I’m not getting a commission for selling it ("freshens your breath, makes you more attractive to others and enlarges your X"), but the hijacker was annoying as chit. My suspicion is it got loaded through one of those "Your Adobe Flash Reader is out of date" dropdowns that I probably clicked on, and buried in that code was a nasty worm.
As to the ’Gon hosting vampires, have no idea. Perhaps contact an admin? I don’t think i was suffering from the problem described in that thread, but the ’search anywhere’ browser redirect hijacker was similar- an apparently legit piece of software that’s been hacked with a redirect and adware. it’s a dangerous world out there, virtual or otherwise.I now wear a wetsuit for social interactions. You never know.... :)
