Using Pre-out / Main-in with External Crossover

This should be fine with an active xover, just like putting it between separate pre and power.

BTW pre-out main-in is not a good place to hook up an EQ from a S/N perspective. The amplifier applies constant gain to any signal at the main-in connection, so it amplifies all of the noise added by the EQ at 100% even with the volume down low. Tape loops come before the volume control in the pre-amp, so this is a better option for connecting an EQ. 

For the .1 channel, the low-passed signal will be at 100% even with the volume down low if you use the Tape loops.

I don't know why he says that, as spitting your integrated, is just like having separate pre/power, and the xover can go between.

Of course it can be a little nosier, but that because your adding more electronics in the signal path.
But that will go just the same for separate pre and power then adding an active xover.
