You can use the blue book, and you can see prices on completed ebay listings. I owned 803s, and kept track of the prices often. I think you'll find the 803s (or 803S) are worth between 2500 and 3000, and the 804s are worth 1700 to 2200. That's my estimate, which is worth about as much as you paid for my thoughts. :-) Original boxes and packaging are critical. Truly good condition is also critical to get the best price, obviously. Take a lot of pictures to document the condition. Also, they are hard to ship, so take more pictures as you pack them to ship, so you have an accurate record of the condition before shipping. |
First question I would ask is 'original boxes and packing in perfect condition? Without that stuff, the speakers value drops another 15%... Beat up boxes for big items... still drop it 5% easily. If the op is in no hurry to sell, then listing them at 60% of list (with perfect boxes) would be my suggestion. And after 30 days no sale, drop to 50%. another month 40% Speakers are one of those things most folks do NOT want to ship a long distance. So usually fewer responses to ads anyway. Where I would buy a preamp from 1500 miles away, No way would I buy speakers at that distance. A plus is your speakers are common, that is also a minus. Plus because more folks interested, minus because more for sale. I agree looking up the prices of others for sale is possible. |
No speaker is 10/10 unless they are new in box. I would say from my experience that most speakers are no better than 8/10 and the ones you mentioned first are 7/10 and the latter 8/10. I would not expect to recoup more than 50% of original list price. The B&W S models are at least a generation behind current models so 40% of list is more likely. |
