XLR where's pin 1 at?

someone please tell me how to determine by looking at the ends of the balanced connection where pin #1 is located? Thanks

Looking at the ends and into the connector: Male pin version - PIN 1 top left (lower, center is PIN 3) Female socket version - PIN 1 top right Regards, Richard
