I don't know much about tuners since the one's that I have previously never sounded that good, BUT:

Recently a friend who is also into real high end audio suggested that I get the Kenwood 7500 and change some of the filters and the op-amp.
I found one that had the fiters changed, and I plan to try out different op-amps soon.

This is one great sounding unit!!

Onkyo T9 Quartz locked tuner...works very, very well and got excellent reviews back in the day...I can find nothing on this model on the web
The Creek T43 has to be mentioned, a stellar piece for the money, or better! For $700 new it's unbeatable in my experiences.
By the way, I didn't even know there were that many tuners made!!!!...lol
I nominate "The AR Tuner" from the early 1970's.
It had the most accurate linear tuning dial ever; if you tuned it to, say, 93.9 in the off position and then turned it on, it would be perfectly center tuned.
It had superb sensitivity and selectivity.
It had classic, clean minimalist styling.
