Shadorne--I suspect your son will appreciate the horological heirloom-to-be more than a power cable. I think there is a certain, if irrational, romance to it all. Unabused and properly maintained, should outlive us.
Absolutely, no BS...something about me will kill a quartz analog watch within weeks or, at best, a few months. Just will stop working and never work again. The Rolex and quality mechanicals survive my black magic curse.
Although a lot of folks take issue with the way others spend their money in the hobby or in life, with the power cables (or fuses or jumpers), unless there is particular issue being addressed, the fair criticism is of the fantastic claims that some fancy or expensive power cable (that replaced a properly functioning and rated cable) made as big of a difference as swapping Bose cubes for Wilsons, Raidhos, or whatever your favorite speakers are. Subjectivity has its limits.
