The reason you see the same companies winning whathifi awards is probably the same reason for never seeing a Hegel review in Whathifi

I upgraded to the Nordost Silver Shadow from Buff and found a good sq increase. However I then stepped up to the Heimdall 2 and wow. Good stuff indeed. Never underestimate that digital out cable quality!
