Young for his Canadian connection with The Band, Diamond supposedly to represent Brill Building-era songwriting. In actuality it was because at the time of the films' taping Robbie Robertson was producing an album for Diamond. Robertson was, as always, thinking in terms of what benefitted him, not The Band.
