Small or large sub for music
I have a Zu Audio Undertone subit is a sealed sub, large, about 70 lbs, runs cool due to Class D, goes down to 14hz. They use the Hypex switching modules and a large 12 inch cone from Eminence (Kentucky). I run it with a pair of Zu bookshelves or ...
Have DAC’s improved for Redbook CD playback?
OP, interesting question. IME, yes and no. It’s a very broad question, so the main answer is, “it depends”. ... on all the factors pointed out above - input and output stages, psi, DAC chip. I always used to assume products would evolve and evolve...
SREAMING???
OP: Cool, good luck( I had the OPPO 95 which was ok but the 105 is definitely better.)@amaglioc @amaglioc. Good point about the non-standardization of “hi res” from one paid streaming service from another.
Tube pre amp
Schiit Freya,i am a Schiit fan. Remember that Schiit sells direct, no middlemen, so the price is about 1/2 of what it would be from a refular AV store. That is a big part of their value. And the engineering they are doing in their products is inte...
Bel canto problems
Agree with colander which power cord are you using? Using any power isolaters? Power Conditioners? Etc wall outlet ok? Using the same outlet for other uses that may interfere?are the impedances b/w amp and preAmp a goood match?etc etc
blue jeans cable?
+1 BJC, I’ve bought Ethernet and AV cables from them. Although BJC has received a lot of praise here, remember that these are considered entry level cables, which is why I used them. But it wasn’t but a month or two later that I was ready To upgra...
SREAMING???
Ya, all that competition b/w format through time is a lot of sales BS. In the end for quality sound, IMO, it is the combo of the quality of the recording type (cd, tape, streaming, vinyl, etc) and the quality of the recording itself that determines...
DAC-Preamp having these specifications?
@celander Ok, i was thinking used prices, with range for a used but Exc condition unit from $2400-$3500, which I have seen IME. Many sellers appear to settle around $2500 as a final price, which would fit the budget. But you only want new?
Recommendations for CDP < $300
yes, just need to see if it would be worth fixing or not.I bought a used Arcam CDP in 2008 for about $350. the disc drive went out 3 months later. No one would buy an injured CDPlayer, so I sent it in for the drive to be replaced. About $250 to fi...
Looking For 90% of the performane of the super expensive cables for much less money
its a perfectly appropriate question, but I just had to giggle a little ,b/c audio cords have the highest profit margin of audio equipment. So the OP wants 90% of the performance at a much lower cost. I would actually suggest to consider making yo...
Making my own power cord.
there are lots of DIY sites out there a search away ...eg, Blue Jeans Cable, Audio Advisor, Parts express, etc
DAC-Preamp having these specifications?
now we are digging a little deeper into the OPs choices: DACsIMO, I dont like the Sabre DACs, I think they sound too sweet and syrupy, like a sonic signal being over processed a 1000 times. Doesn't even sound real to me. I prefer AKM and Burr-Brow...
diffuser
@diffuser I like your thinking ,cuz I was thinking the same thingIm sure there are many NON-audio products out there that would satisfy as as diffuser, like at World Markets above.Although, I would not suggest to go behind Safeway, grab some woode...
Oppo 105 D vs. DAC-transport combination.
@celander "celander343 posts08-13-2018 11:02amLet's not rehash that debate. 😂"@geoffkait +1, regarding CD dynamic range compression. That robbed much of the life of CD playback. Dude!! you got sucked back in!! lol
