Should I upgrade my system while losing my hearing?
artemus_5I had hearing loss during my time with Air Defense Artillery (Hawk missles) and Field Artillery (Howitzer) units with US Army and Army Reserves. Lucky for me after I retired I was able to get a partial disability and the VA pays for my he...
Agon is now a retail outlet.
I guess I agree with most people here. One does NOT have to buy or sell anything here. You can exchange experiences, judgements, opinions and bias comments or just troll (as many, unfortunately do) and never buy or sell anything. In fact when I se...
Agon is now a retail outlet.
To be honest, I have only had six buying experiences on the gon. Two went fine, the other four were awful. Not a place where I would buy any audio equipment, nor sell any.
Should I upgrade my system while losing my hearing?
Would anyone work on the engine and transmission of a high performance automobile like a Ferrari if all four of the tires were almost flat? I think of correcting a hearing loss much the way I see the inflation of tires on a high performance race c...
Need DAC/Streaming Advice
The only music streaming apps I have used on a Samsung Smartv was Pandora and Spotify. I have never passed that digital signal via an optical out on my TV to a DAC. Someone else may have to add this info to the discussion although I don’t think an...
Need DAC/Streaming Advice
There is talk of entry level products with regard to DAC components. My experience has been that since the DAC chip itself and implementation of the design and layout is changing so fast in the audio world, what had been a top level component 6 ye...
Opinions on Parasound A21 & A21+
I have been using the A21 for about 6 years. The best sounding amp I have had, but have never paid over $2.5k for any amp. Funny, I had the Odyssey amps and the A21 is much better, not to mention the Stratos failed on me....twice. John Curl design...
Integrated recommendation with Vandersteen 2C
Was there a point to this thread?
Are manufacturers having discussions removed from Audiogon if they turn negative?
Please don’t take offense to this comment, it is meant to help many fellow audiophiles. With so many great audio companies out there (including speaker companies) why would anyone take the risk with their money on a company with a growing bad repu...
Highest BUILD quality tube amps?
Sbank- “Haven’t seen a similar thread where a category has so many enthusiast responses for so many brands. Is that telling us something about tube amps?”Having heard SS amps, class d amps, class A and AB amps and some other hybrid ones, I prefer ...
Highest BUILD quality tube amps?
I agree with Atmasphere. PTP wiring is really the best design for vacuum tube amps. I have a Line Magnetic integrated amp and my dealer told me the company designed the amps based on the old Western Electic blueprints from USA designs. So far, com...
Highest BUILD quality tube amps?
Interestingly, I have had more problems with US made equipment. Not so much with gear made elsewhere in other countries. In fact I had US made audio made by a German guy that was dreadful and poor parts. But my Chinese made gear was made great and...
Highest BUILD quality tube amps?
Shindo (velvet sound, low power speakers, expensive) BAT (expensive and gobs of power) Line Magnetic Audio (great budget) Border Patrol (low power speakers, horns) and Decware (great reputation) and ARC (quality and name recognition)
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life!
I would take a Marantz SA 11s3 over any Oppo. Both are good, but the Marantz is really top notch. Anything designed by Ken Ishiwata is going to be superb sounding. Also not knocking Oppo but I think they are stepping away from audio.
Integrated amp question.....around $1000..could use some help!
I think the Musical Fidelity on your list for would be a good choice. If paired with a Bluesound Node 2i, you could have a quality amp, preamp, DAC and streamer. That would put you at around $1300.
