Experiment: Level Matching Frequencies
Thank you, Bob.IIRC the EQ function of ROON has received praise for not harming the signal. The more I think about it the more this experiment may become a laypersons journey into optimizing the ROON equalizer. Can any other  ROON users chime in? O...
Experiment: Level Matching Frequencies
Thanks Elizabeth, forgot to mention that I adjusted the Q as necessary, for example the peak at 80Hz and at 100Hz both had a Q of 1 (very thin slope), the Q at 160-200Hz had a Q of 6 (or 8?) at 185Hz to cover the range. Quite possible I didn’t hav...
What would be good preamp to run McCormick dna1
Ed, a tube preamp will probably sound best with what you have. If your budget allows find a a Don Sachs DS 2 if you like detail or DeHavilland if you like warmth.
Your Favorite Holiday Album
I enjoy Christmas music, all kinds from pop to unordinary. If you need  something different  try the 5-disk album from Sufjan Stevens. Traditional, simple, and sincere.
How are you hearing no difference?
n80 - I don't find it useful when someone describes two components sounding the same, that's my point. It just makes sense to me to find the difference if you've taken an interest to compare. Notice I'm not saying "better", a subjective term but s...
How are you hearing no difference?
Some very good points made here. I take care quite often to have a friend come help blind test; I also compare over time, and get my wife's "golden ears" opinion until she gets annoyed (humor).I understand and agree that certain components will so...

Audio Stores:Stereo Exchange moved uptown to 857 Broadway a couple years ago near Union Square. By appointment only. Great place. There's another place on 58th that I can't remember the name, they're also by appointment. ~Tom in Sacramento.

Preamp Input for Coincident system - Don Sachs, deHavilland, LTA, Joule Electra?
I've written about the differences at various times on this forum. The most complete description is found here https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/don-sachs-2-vs-dehavilland-ultraverve-3/post?postid=1567289#1...and here https://forum.audiogon.c...
Preamp Input for Coincident system - Don Sachs, deHavilland, LTA, Joule Electra?
Chris, where are you at? I've got both the Dehavilland and Don Sachs. I'm in Sacramento if you want to audition. ~Tom
Two Against Nature-What is your reference recording?
For a long time on CD I've used the album 'Blue Moon' by Ahmad Jamal. Specifically the song Morning Mist. The better my system became, the more depth and clarity I would hear -- lots of things to discover in this song, especially the percussion.
My impression of Pass Lab XP-10 (with respect to Conrad Johnson 17LS)
"...there is a sense of present and live-ness that only tubes can provide."Yep, completely agree with the above,  but somehow I still use the XP-10 more than my other tube pre's because it performs better with pop music. For serious listening to "...
Empirical Audio Synchro mesh reclocker, anybody?
I owned the Offramp 3 for a few years ago, it very much improved the sound of my dac. But then my focus shifted, and I sold it; having fun now comparing  pre-amps. I'll probably circle back to Empirical next year to see what's new. Steve's website...
Krell KSA100 vs Threshold 400A vs McCormack DNA 0.5
@Aux - very considerate observation on behalf of the OP; this forum needs more people like you. I have to agree about detail in the McCormack DNA. I describe it as clear because "overly-detailed" seems such a derogatory term for an amp design that...
