Tube Preamp Advice Needed
Was asking a reasonable question. It wasn't an "attack".
Tube amp on the floor or on the rack?
It doesn't hurt anything to place the open chassis tube amp on the top shelf of your equipment stand. I've done this but of course my stand is a hefty unit and able to handle the weight. This is not the rocket science that some people make it out ...
ARC VT-100 MK II vs. Sonic Frontiers Power 2
I owned the ARC VT100MKII and it is in fact a fairly neutral sounding amp. The low end bass and "slam" was outstanding and the air and soundstage was also very good. I tend to enjoy a more tube like sound though especially with a wee bit of midran...
Pass Labs X-1, X-2, X-0
Hi Joe - I'm waiting for my used CJ PF-R preamp to arrive. If it's not quite what I'm looking for, I'll be searching for a deal on a used X1. My amp is a CJ Premier 11a tube amp. ...Abe
Conrad-Johnson PF-R Preamp Review Summary?
Thanks everyone for your input! And a special thanks to a member named "Alex" who sent me the entire article via fax. I thought I remember the CJ PF-R being a highly regarded preamp by their owners as well as by the press. I was looking for some r...
Volume Controls for CD Players
Sound quality does not necessarily suffer w/o a preamp. There are many cases where eliminating the preamp and driving the amp directly from the CD player is a noticeable improvement. A couple examples include: Sony XA7ES or Cary 306/200 driving th...
Bridging Classe CA-100's
Krelldog, no need to afford Krell. There are better amps at reasonable cost and Classe is a good example, IMHO. This doesn't address your specific question but thought I would share my experience with the Classe DR10 CA-100 CA-200 and CA-300 amps....

Kasboot, do you work for Decware or are somehow compensated by promoting their products?
Conrad-Johnson PF-R Preamp Review Summary?
In my opinion, the "affordable" PV series of tube preamps from CJ have a wonderful midrange but they seem to roll-off the highs and lack the solid bass that I enjoy. I haven't tried a "Premier class" CJ preamp due to price. I'm curious to learn wh...

Decware Model ZTPRE
Balanced vs RCA preamp output
I have to agree with Tswhitsel. Depending on your gear, single-ended may actually sound better than balanced. If you have a noise problem or slight ground loop hum or buzz because of all the gear piled into your audio rack, the balanced interconne...
Tube Preamp Advice Needed
In general, ARC sounds very neutral or even sterile as someone else has already mentioned. I own an ARC LS16 and have listened to ARC LS25 series. Also owned an ARC VT100MKII tube amp and sold it and kept my CJ amp but thats another story. On the ...
Arcam CD92 vs. Cary 303/100
Many used Cary's on the market because new models are out. Cary updated their CDP line this past summer with the 306/200 and 303/200 so this is probably why you are seeing many of the previous models up for sale. In any case, I would easily choose...
Cary 303/200 vs 306/200
I went with the 306/200 but would be happy with either. The 306/200 has 8 24-bit Burr-Brown DAC chips (vs 2 in the 303/200) for a lower noise floor and wider dynamic range and it will do 96KHz or 192KHz upsampling. I also use my 306/200 as a DAC f...
Attention Cary CD Owners
I never really noticed the super bright blue LED's until now. BTW, they are LEDs and not LASERs or you wouldn't be reading this today. My Cary is still under warranty so I haven't popped the lid yet. You can probably double or triple the value of ...
