Audiophile TT article in Forbes
The Tax Code allows deductions for "ordinary and necessary" business expenses, so the question would be whether the purchase of this piece of equipment was "necessary". It is clear that you don't have to buy a Ferrari or a turntable in order to te...
ARC 6B electrolytic filter cap replacement
ARC itself replaced mine for $405 including return shipping and the sound is great.
poweramp tube matching
Power tubes need to be matched for gain (transconductance or gm) as well as for current and both are equally important. Individual biasing does in effect match up tubes for current output, but it does not address gain. For that, you have to match ...
When is your system good enough-and why?
My current system is good enough now that I look forward to listening to it every night. It's also new enough that there still is room for improvement without changing components. I'm not sure it will ever be good enough for me not to want to make...
Audio Research Ref 3 Opinions
I humbly disagree with Oneobgyn regarding tube rolling with the Ref 3. That said, there is only one alternative to the stock 6H30's, which are milspec early '90's Russian 6H30-DR's. My experience is that those tubes do enhance imaging and dimensio...
Time to reflect - why do you post on Audiogon.....
1. I find the level of discussions on Audiogon to be uniformly very high and very informative - easily the best of any of the audio internet sites that I have encountered.2. I continue to learn a lot from Audiogon so, like David Berry, if I think ...

Richard Vandersteen at Audio Connection
I certainly agree that I too am a huge fan of John Rutan at Audio Connection. Hopefully he will have a room at this year's Stereophile show, as he did the last time it was in New York.
AR/Aragon Has anyone used this combo?
I used an ARC SP-11 tube preamp with an Aragon 4004 for 3-4 years with no problems at all.
Jazz vinyl- go for originals or new reissues?
1. I agree in most respects with Davt's comment that Blue Note originals are the pinnacle of vinyl. For me, the first pressing of a given Blue Note has always proved the best. The title numbers for the first pressings are: Lexington 1501-1543; W.6...

Vinyl records grading scale
The generally recognized grading scale was established by Goldmine and a complete version of it can be found at the link below. According to that scale a grade of VG+ for the vinyl, as opposed to the cover, would meet your listening criteria. Howe...
Getting rid of harsh, shrill treble
I agree with Tvad that more information would be helpful and I would add that harshness can also be due to, among other things, cables, plugs, dirty contacts, power line issues, RFI, interaction between your components, need for vibration control,...
Looking for a bookshelf at 2k or less.....
I recently heard Robert Reina of Stereophile say that he specializes in reviewing low cost speakers and that there are many very good ones out there. I suggest you look up his reviews for Stereophile.
