DEQX
@handymann I'm a big proponent of running what you already own and taking stock of how it sounds before spending more money. Several A'goners strictly adhere to 1.5 meter SPDIF cables. And I confess that I only buy 1.5 meter SPDIF cables. But, I h...
Please be gentle....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGiOx-NAE7AHi, thanks for asking folks on A'gon for help. Although gentle is not always the watch word on this site, there are lots of folks here who have plenty of audio expertise. Unfortunately it might not cover ...
DEQX
@handymann My pleasure, Steve. I will be interested in hearing how it turns out for you. I watched my computer screen as Larry did his magic for me. He let me ask him any question I wanted while he worked. It was a great learning experience and he...
DEQX
@handymann Hi Steve: I haven't heard any of your equipment so I'm not a good sounding board on that front. But, I wouldn't sell anything until you give Larry a shot at running some setups for you. He can run a profile with the Miles straight into ...
Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming
In my rig CDs ripped to Antipodes DX3 server (WAV) (Roon) sounded superior to CDs played on an Oppo 105D transport to the very same DAC. So much so, I sold the Oppo 105D. I listen to the CDs at 24/96. BTW I believe @audioengr Steve N. has noted el...
Setting up a system - What to buy WHEN?
First, welcome. You have asked a question that will yield strongly held differing opinions. My recommendation, which I have given several times to others, is as follows: If possible, attend a large audio show. AXPONA is in Chicago in the spring an...
DEQX
@handymann  Hi Steve: FWIW I wouldn't run my system in any other way. The chain goes like this: Antipodes DX3 music server=>via Purist Audio Design 25th Ann. 1.5M USB=>DEQX Premate =>via Stealth Vardig 16T Sextet 1.5M SPDIF=>Jeff Rowla...
DEQX
@handymann Larry is a wizard. During your test period Larry can allow you to hear the DEQX in different configurations so you can figure out which one best suits you. I will be surprised if you don't end up keeping the unit when the 21 days is ove...
Thoughts about speakers for a newbie
Welcome. I highly recommend that you attend an audio show, such as AXPONA (which is in the spring in Chicago) or RMAF (which is in the fall in Denver). There you will get to hear a vast array of speakers in different price ranges. Importantly, it ...
Music Server/Player for NOS R2R DAC
@jdavis37 I owned the Antipodes DX--it had SPDIF out. I now own the Antipodes DX3. It has USB out only that I then feed to a DEQX Premate that has SPDIF out to my DAC. If your DAC performs better via SPDIF than USB, I recommend this approach. FWIW...
DEQX not discoverable...
Todd...I've done the same thing with my DEQX and the two USB ports...panic, then private embarrassment, then gratitude that it was my error and not something major. Wanted you know you are not alone.Regards
DAC's : The missing feature: Signal quality
Erik: I always like that you are thoughtful about our hobby and I conceptually like your idea. If a DAC sounded exceptional to me, and it had this feature, and it could be demonstrated to make a difference by allowing the user to rationally react ...
Stillpoints - snake oil?
I use them. I like them. I recommend them. Galen Carol sells them through his website. Other dealers do the same. Galen is a very good dealer. I've made several purchases from him. I have found that in my system the Stillpoints Ultra SS devices ha...
If You Like Funk: Check Out Vulfpeck
@chazro I was just listening to Jon Cleary's "Go-Go Juice" thanks to you. Great CD.@ghosthouse regarding Brian Culbertson--your welcome (I think ;-). I hear you on the packaging--but those boys can play.
If You Like Funk: Check Out Vulfpeck
Which then lead me to this Brian Culbertson piece where he plays some tasty trombone and pass offs with the sax player that are worth hearing. Bass player isn't shy either.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCopcNpzc60
