tube noise - 2 questions Like atmasphere mentioned change the tube. Clean the pins and the tube socket. If using a new tube and you still hear the noise and after wiggling the tube the noise comes and goes then probably replace the tube socket. Happy Listening.
How good's your hearing I would love anyone in the NYC area to bring over their class D amps to show me what I am missing. PLEASE! Recently had the NuForce amps in my system with upgraded 5V power supplies. The owner was kind enough to stop by and let me hear them. ...
Counterpoint SA-11 Manual Faceplates are rare to find. They can be made by your local metal manufacturer but I am not sure if you want to bother. Remotes are even rarer to find. I can repair and modify any audio component and work on Counterpoint components usually 3/4 ...
Are DAC's overpriced? It all depends on what you want your system to sound like. If you can use a soldering iron then change a few parts in your CD and pre and see what happens. Most of the DACs I have heard in the $2K to $5K range really don't float my boat. They v...
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio @akg_ca (1) Since everything in this crazy hobby is built to a level commensurate with its price-point, I have never yet seen ANY $2K DAC match -- much less "crush" -- a $10K-$12K DAC....full stop. And I’ve attended numerous audio fest paloozas wi...
Used Market Savings vs. The Dealer Experience IMO please do not use a dealer if you plan on buying used gear. TO me that is not a good way to be. I do repair work for a few dealers and I still don't bother them to show me things unless I invite a bunch of people to their showroom, buy the p...
Which Class D Amplifier? PS Audio, Ghent, Nord, Merrill or other??? @georgehifi I definitely don’t think there’s a need to wait for GaN semiconductor technology to ’trickle down’. As I believe you’ve already discovered, good class D performs exceptionally well. But it still does not compete with the best linear am...
Thinking of upgrading from pass labs x250 @adg101 the Counterpoint I am referring to is really no longer a Counterpoint once you upgrade the unit with bi-polar transistors, chokes, resistors, caps, etc. Then at the price point you will in with the other amps in the price range and possib...
Thinking of upgrading from pass labs x250 There are a number of things you can do for the Dude preamp. My friend has one and he did a few things. Upgrade the 6SN7 tubes to Shuguang CV-181 tubes, upgrade the volume control to a KHOZMO ACOUSTICS volume control, change the output caps to e...
Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K) @gdnrbob - Yep I purchased the 5As so I'm moving on up!
If you still spin CD's their is a reference level Transport for reasonable money Anyone in the NYC area? I would live to hear one. Or is there a way to hear one in my own system with a trial period? I don't buy anything based upon anyone's recomdation anymore. Not that I don't trust any of you but I don't.
Is the NuPrime CDT 9 Pro a Best Kept Secret? For those of you using the Jay transport what are you referring to when you say that it's built like a tank? What are you referring to? What comparisons to other transports in similar price range? How did it differ from the CEC models? Thanks
