Zero Autoformer good/bad for Atma/Quad combo
I did use the "Zero's" with the M-60 amps driving a pair Acoustat 2+2s electrostats. I did call Ralph and he did endorse them. In fact I posed the question "are the M-60's capable of driving the Acoustat speaker" and he suggested the Zero's. He mu...
Tube amp suggestions under $3k used
Most of the Cary line can be bought used for under that $3000.00 figure you mention. Cary seems to constantly make revesions on their existing models so get the latest revision that the budget allows.

Re-tubing this amp can be a bit of a chore.http://mycollins.net/audio/artube1.htmlNice amps.......
Watt Puppy 7 needs new or used Amp and Pre-amp
Yea, why did you ask (Atmashere). Anyone who has read much in this forum knows that he is a manufacture, and unless asked a direct question about the Atmasphere product, I have never read one response to a question regarding tube amplification tha...
300b amps bettering the midrange of the Cary 300b
I will second the Sophia. I have a Sophia Electric 300b amp that has been modified by one of there (Sophia's) technicians, I might suggest getting rid of the 5Z3P rectifier tube in favor of an older US built 5U4G, a must for any Sophia owner. Even...
Cary V12 and other tubes
Kdi40, are these amps new or used. My findings with cary Equipment, especially amplifiers, they need at least 50 hours before they even start to open up and 100 hours to really start sounding good. I know it sounds like "BS" but it is true. Also, ...
Three Cheers for Pass Labs
Cary should also be put onto this short list of manufactures that go the extra mile. I have had an several occasions Denise Had (owner of Cary) take the time to talk with me and guide me through a couple of exercises to get an amp that I also boug...
Class-D amps - a different re view
I will preface my remark by saying I have not listened to any of Class D amps except at a couple of the Audio shows so I won't attempt to argue or debate the issues of sonics but to follow up on Ralph's (Atmasphere) points; I don't think Ralph thi...
How hot should a McCormack DNA-225 get?
Getting on this topic late so maybe you have looked at or have already been advised of this. Since you have a dedicated line to your equipment you probably don't have this, but on the newer houses, I guess for newer codes, some of the circuit brea...
Personal amp evolution
Getting to this thread late. My quest for that "Holy Grail" started back in 1979 when I purchased a 100 watt Hafler amp coupled with a NAD Preamp running that through Snell C's. Of course there was no Cd's so a turntable was used. From there is ha...
cary cdp 306/200 and Wadia 861
I did exactly what you are thinking of doing. The only difference is I had an 860x. A big mistake, the Wadia has it all over the Cary sonically. At the time I wanted to use the difference in a totally different arena. Now I wish I had done it a di...
What is the best DAC ever made?
The best??????????I have had a few DAC's including Krell, Meridian, Theta, Timbre, Audio Research, Benchmark, and now a not so well known factory modded Audio Horizon 3.0. Without a doubt the Audio Horizon is the "best" I have had to date. It is a...
Opinions on Power Regenerators and Tube Amps
A little late to the dance on this one, but my 2 cents. I am in agreement with Nsgarch, somewhat. The difference from what Nsgarch said, I plug my amps into a simple filter. It is a non current limiting filter, I feel I get some benefit from the f...
Is Bi - amping worth the trouble?
Sean, I was one of the doubters for 30+ years. A recording engineer as well as a tube designer friend of mine kept hounding me to do nothing more than to try bi-amping. About two years ago I get a care package from him including an active crossove...
Is Bi - amping worth the trouble?
Getting in a little late on this one, and, I have not read every thread in response so apologies in advance for any redundancy.I am a big believer in byamping, have been for quite some time, in my opinion, it must be done using an active crossover...
