Am I the only one who loves french horns?
I pay particular attention to reproduction of French Horns when auditioning new equipment.  I have found that a piece of equipment that gets horns right usually gets everything right.  If an audition doesn't get horns right, and I mean really righ...
BEST MALE VOCAL EVER
This is indeed a diverse list.  Given some of the nominees, I am a little surprised there are no votes for Bob Dylan or Neil Young.  :)
Sophia Electric New EL34 tubes
@wig , thanks, this is very helpful.  I will probably pick up a 274B to try in my PS 9.0.  So far, the Canadian Westinghouse  V-71 is the best rectifier I've come across by a substantial margin, including the GZ34 Mullard and the Philips tube that...

@wig, some of us have been trying to get some feedback on the new sophia blues.  Thanks for providing a brief encouragement.  This is a recent thread where @winoguy17 was looking specifically for feed back on the 6SN7.  I think we would love to he...

Crickets.Sorry, but I have some NOS RCA grey glass that cost me $50/tube that are vastly superior to my old style Sophia based on the Full Music tube.  I actually preferred a new production Tung-Sol to that Sophia in one application.  I'm not spen...
Atma-Sphere in CO?
@cal3713 One other thought is that you mentioned what 6SN7s you had but you didn't mention where you put them.  I have found that any given mixture of 6SN7s will give very different results depending on where the tubes are located in the amps.  In...
How to assess and quantify system improvement and changes?
I think this is almost impossible to achieve, because it is always based on subjective assessments.  We don't all weight various attributes the same, so, if I were to make a change that to me seemed to be a 24.8% improvement, someone else would sa...

@cal3713 I just recently picked up a pair of used EML XLS and also have the mullard rectifiers.  Tried the Elrogs twice, which were superb, but they failed.  Not sure if the new Elrogs are holding up in the Franks or not.  But they were to die for...

I hear lots of noise when I turn on the bedroom light too early in the morning.

@cal3713 thanks for the update.   I am well aware of the virtues of the Franks, which is why I am keeping them.  If I had to choose between the Franks and the M-60's, I'd probably keep the M-60's, but it would be a though choice.   Your PREs are m...
Atma-Sphere in CO?
@cal3713 ,  I looked at the Music Room ad and remember that they indicated the amps were MK 3 and were 8 years old.  @atmasphere  can probably deconvolute the history of your new amps when you have the serial numbers.  Ralph nailed it on the diffe...
Atma-Sphere in CO?
@cal3713 I think the amps you bought are MK 3s, so I am going to have to defer to Ralph.  Mine are MK 3.3, so what I know is not relevant to your amps regarding which positions are most impactful.  I can say that at least in my amp, tube rolling t...

@noromance , thanks for the info on the globes.  Please keep us posted as they burn in, and any comparison with the NOS standbys would really be great.

I've looked at these, and am intrigued by them.  The issue is cost.  At the asking price, you can still get superb NOS 6SN7's, and you can get really good 6SN7s for less.  It is hard to justify running the experiment.  The same goes for the Psvane...

@cal3713 ,  I've also thought about giving Pass or First Watt at try, and almost went that way before I bought the M-60's.  The problem is that when I like something, I don't want to give it up.  That is why I ended up keeping the Franks.  If I br...
