Is $3000 pushing the limits for a geat monitor??
Check out Volent speakers. I will also second the Evolution Acoustic speakers for an endorsement. One of the biggest mistakes out there is that people don't pair these less costly speakers with great gear. Looking forward to seeing where you land.
Need to Downsize: Small Speaker Recommendation
Volent VL2 or Usher BE-718'sOthers I've owned and in all cases like the above two over...Merlin MME, Spendor S3a, Spendor S5a. Others I've heard and I would investigate further include Evolution Acoustic Model 1 (I believe), Rahdio, Wilson Benesch...
Lamm 1.2 mono's versus Aesthetix Atlas mono's
I can't speak well to your direct question, however I have traveled a similar path. Three months ago I changed from Rogue M180 mono amps to Aesthetix Atlas stereo amp. My preamp is the Calypso Signature. I am also running the Aesthetix Rhea for ph...
Phono preamp for Dynavector XX2mkII
You might get a used Rhea near that money...love mine with the XV1s. Adjustable gain and load from your seat...can't beat that and an upgrade path down the road to Signature level.
audio valve eklipse or aesthetix calypso
I've lived with the Calypso for several years now...have not heard the AV. The upside of the Calypso is that you can add a great phono stage down the road (Rhea), the price used is a bargain (my opinion) for the performance, and it can be upgraded...
Merlin TSM comparisons
I have to agree with Steveaudio. After the TSM I had Usher and Volent monitors and the latter are here to stay. The Merlins are good speakers...but equipment matching is very critical. Ultimately they were just not for me...but ears vary so use yo...
Optimum tracking force Benz Micro L2, M2, H2
I run my H2 at 1.920 grams...but It might not be universal...I'd guess that the rest of you setup matters greatly. Go ahead and experiment...that's the fun in this hobby. I like to start out at 1.7 and increase .1 grams until I find a range that s...
Any Tom Waits Fans?
Waits is fantastic. Check out Blue Valentine. If you like Mule Variations then Blood Money and Real Gone are probably up your ally as well.
Why aren't ALL remotes like Playstation PS3 ?
I have been wondering the same thing...pointing in at a component directly is so 2000!
Advice on going from mid level to high end
The best move I made was to listen to as many systems as possible to learn what I needed. Then go to an audio show to hear 100's of speakers over the course of a weekend. You'll at least come away with 3 brands to investigate further...and elimina...
Is Singlepower still in bussiness?
This is terrible news! I've met Mikhail many years ago and own one of his amps. He was extremely nice and his amps are my absolute favorite for headphones. Really a shame...perhpas there is a reasonable explanation that will come out in time.
Conrad-Johnson ET-2 vs Aesthetix Calypso
I haven't heard the ET-2, however I moved from a CJ preamp to the Calypso. The truth is that these couldn't be two more different sounding brands. This isn't an endorsement for either, but rather an encouragement for you to decide which house soun...
Speed Stability
I second the KAB...but I don't think your issue is speed. Speed will change the pitch but that would be uniform throughout the record. If the record is "slipping", as in the drag of the needle is pulling the record at times, then a fluctuation in ...
Some advice needed
I moved from an AVR200 to their AVR350...not enough difference in my opinion...In other words I would only make a change if you need some extra oomph for your speakers. Otherwise I think you should wait to afford something more to truly realize an...
Speaker recommendation. have $2,500
If your room is larger you want to move a lot of air otherwise you may feel disapointed. For the money you want to spend I would definitely look at Revel F50a (I've owned and they are great...father now uses them in a 25 x 18 room and they are roo...
