Symphony box set recommendations
I should have added that I'm referreing specifically to the Giulini's VSO recording of 2 now on Testament and the DG recordings of 7-9.
Symphony box set recommendations
Giulini only recorded 2 and 7-9, all among the best recordings of those works.http://www.abruckner.com/sitesearch/searchdiscographyd/default.htm?search=giulini

Dvorak Complete Symphonies: Neumann/Czech Phil on SupraphonI don't listen to 1-3 much, though. You could get Rowicki's twofer of 4-6 and the twofer of Szell's 7-9.For Mahler, the Bertini is a very strong set. For Bruckner, there are the two Jochum...
30 ft rca run too long for a phono to preamp?
I think total capacitance would be way too high.30' is getting into an iffy range even for line level signals, where I've seen balanced cables recommended for anything over 10 meters.
could a different power cord cure sibilance?
I think a much simpler explanation is that the capacitive and/or resistive loading of the ARC needs to be adjusted for your cart. I suggest posting on the analog board for advice, giving your cart model and the current settings on the ARC.
Bryston or Outlaw
It would have probably be more productive just to ask for people's experiences with the Outlaw amps without bringing up Bryston. Comparison of two amps with such dissimilar price tags is fraught with all sorts of baggage.Make sure you get a copy o...
SME V vs 309 Sonic Differences
I have a 309 on my Gyro SE (with the arm decoupler kit). I can't compare to the V, but I can say the 309 sounds neither dark nor analytical. Compared to an Incognito-wired RB300, it is much less beefy and more refined, sort of like the difference ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Mozart, Piano Concertos 20 & 6 - Ashkenazy/Schmidt-Isserstedt/VPO on a London Lp. This is not from Ashkenazy's set of the PCs, but an earlier one-off recording.

I don't know how you got "don't bother" from T-bones post. I think his approach is the more down to earth one.Original pressings aren't always the best. Mastering and cutting techniques improved over the years (I not sure about the present. I thin...
Opinions? SME 309 vs OL Silver vs Tecnoarm for KB
If the advertised dynmamic compliance is accurate, the Ortofon should be a good match for all these arms.Setting up a cart on the SME with their alignment tool is easiest if the cartridge mounting hole to stylus tip distance is 9.5mm. That puts th...

Truisms might be better called prejudices. ;)To answer your digital vs. vinyl question, I don't feel it's helpful to think of vinyl as a sonic upgrade over CDs. I think that's pushed too much here and in the audiophile rags. At least, that's not h...

Jaybo brings up a good point.Do you have any records now? Do you have a good source of used records in your area? Also availability of records may be genre dependent. If 90s rock is your thing, few titles are going to be available on vinyl. If you...
Garage Storage?
I'd want to be able to assure buyers that the pieces are in working order despite the years of storage. Can you get some cheap thrift store speakers to test them with? An mp3 player would work as a source with a 1/8" jack to phono adapter cable.
best Integrated amp under 4000$
A used BAT VK-300x would be under $4000. If you're into vinyl, add a phono module, and I think you would be done for a very long time.
RIP J Gordon Holt
Stereophile has some interesting interviews, including this fascinating but curiously short one that I've quoted from below. I hope more audiophiles take some of the things he had to say to heart."Vitality? Don't make me laugh. Audio as a hobby is...
