impedance question and tubes Thanks Atmasphere, this is very interesting. I will listen again with some of this in mind. Very helpful!
impedance question and tubes Thanks Roscoe. This amp has a lot of power (Copeland 506). 90 watts per channel. Speakers are not the easiest load at 87db. But it is plenty loud with out any apparent lack of reserves.
strange microphonic sound after amp is turned off This is very helpful. It didn't seem like it was a big deal but it is good to get confirmation. I will monitor it and see whether it changes. Thanks all
strange microphonic sound after amp is turned off Oh, and I forgot to mention that I have a dedicated line feeding the system and it is very well implemented so this is not an issue with an improperly grounded mains line. Thanks.
whole house surge protector? Maxsound2000, I bought this unit:Leviton 51120-1
whole house surge protector? Frank -- it turns out it is really hard to get an EP 2050. I tried contacting the company directly and the distributor. Long story but, after talking to a dealer who used to sell them (and stopped because he didn't see the reason to do it anymore)...
Class D amps No one has mentioned the Kharma MP150s which (admittedly awhile ago) won Absolute Sounds shoot out of class D amps. I have a tubed Cd player with volume control (EAR Acute) driving the Kharmas directly. It is absolutely wonderful sound -- the best...
What cheap dacs are there with volume controls? Hi Rich (and Sfar).Everyone's experience is different I guess. The Bereford is good and versatile, but the Benchmark, in my system offered greater detail and resolution, improved dynamics, and better soundstaging. It also sounds fuller. The Beresf...
What cheap dacs are there with volume controls? If you can spend $625-650 the Benchmark DAC1 will beat out the others mentioned here. I had the Beresford before I moved up to the Benchmark and I've also heard the Cambridge.
Help understanding the new Stillpoints products Glad to know it's not just me, thanks for your responses Mezmo and FrankC.A dealer has e-mailed me and offered to help straighten it out. Please e-mail me if you want me to follow-up with details.
Help understanding the new Stillpoints products Ebm -- the Symposium stuff is not what I'm looking for, thanks though.Ramy, this is consistent with the review, thanksCalloway, I read the article in stereotimes (I mis-cited it above as Positive Feedback). That article is tantalizing, but I don't...
modest towers with high WAF for living room? Oh, and Totem Hawks are very nice (and small), but the Forests are definitely better IMHO.
modest towers with high WAF for living room? Forests do well close to the wall, and 125w/ch at modest levels is probably okay.
Kharma MP 150 any user? I use Kaplan HE2's. Tried a lot of others. Realy like the price/performance of these. What are you using?
modest towers with high WAF for living room? Used Totem Forests will be well within your budget. Check the reviews. Super high WAF. Great for your kind of listening. Bewarned -- they require powerful amps. |
