How do you like your VPI -Classic, Scout, Scoutmaster, Prime, TNT, ?
As an owner of my second VPI table I concur with the Captain's remarks about the Spiral Groove/Centroid combination. The best turntable I have ever heard. The combined effect of the design innovations present in that table/arm raises the performan...
Daedalus Audio Apollo Speakers
Part III: Daedalus/WyWires Speaker CablesOnce the Apollo’s had broken in and I had a good handle on what they were doing in my room, I reached out to Lou to talk about speaker cables. Lou offers cables he has jointly developed with Alex Sventitsky...
Daedalus Audio Apollo Speakers
@bobheinatz My short answer is absolutely! Lou feels the Apollo's are his most versatile model and can make beautiful music in all types of listening environments. My room is 13 X 17 X 8 so only slightly larger than yours. I imagine if yours is a ...
Daedalus Audio Apollo Speakers
@ctc1 Yes, using a Herron VTSP-3A (R03). Seems to me this is a totally underrated linestage--the VTPH-2A phonostage gets all the accolades but the linestage is equally amazing. That said, I understand the LTA Microzotal linestage is phenomenal and...
Daedalus Audio Apollo Speakers
@bobheinatz Put simply the LTA UL had a transformative impact on my system. I am constantly amazed by this amp--so pure, liquid, expressive and sensible--it weighs nothing, the tubes are cheap and will last forever, it puts out little heat, ETC. D...
Daedalus Audio Apollo Speakers
Part III: The SoundWith around 200+ hours on the speakers I began to listen in earnest. I’ll try to summarize my findings in general terms but my commentary will also provide comparison with the outgoing DA-1.1s, which were among the best speakers...
Soundsmith Progression: MIMC Star > Sussurro Mk II
Good discussion here...thanks everyone. Just to add for those thinking about the MIMC Star. I would echo the list of points made by Slaw for this model as well. Ease of set up, love the wings protecting the cantilever, very quiet, incredible stagi...
New Feikert Volare
Bump--anyone had a chance to hear this table?
Daedalus Audio Apollo Speakers
Part II: Set Up and Break In ProcessLike my DA-1.1s, the Apollo’s proved incredibly easy to place. I don’t have a dedicated listening room so my hifi must share our living room, whose configuration demands loudspeakers on the long wall with their ...
Daedalus Audio Apollo Speakers
Thanks everyone--yes, the synergy between Daedalus Audio speakers and the LTA Ultralinear amplifier is an important piece of the picture. The Ultralinear was designed by David Berning specifically for high efficiency designs like the Apollo's. Thi...
high-efficiency loudspeakers
Over the holidays I took delivery of a pair of Daedalus Audio Apollos. Far and away the best speakers I have ever owned and among the best I have heard at any price. Simply gorgeous and sound incredible. I have done some writing about them here: h...
Looking for the best Preamp with a phono circuit built in
I saw a David Berning preamp here the other day which would probably be awesome.
Do you use VPI Anti-skating?
My understanding is that there are different points of view regarding using the wire twist versus the anti-skating set up for a VPI table. Harry Weisfeld, if I recall correctly, is pretty agnostic about the need for anti-skate period and has said ...
WHAT TURNTABLE?
I haven't heard the Rega. I am currently using a one-off VPI "Scout Supreme" which approximates the Prime Signature on the Scout chassis. After years of using VPI unipivots (JMW-9 and 3D-10) I went with a gimbaled 3D-10 on this table. Could not be...
Do you use VPI Anti-skating?
I have owned two VPI tables and have chosen to use the wire twist rather than the anti-skate. I tried it, I did not prefer it to the wire twist approach. Currently using a Soundsmith MIMC Star and loving how it sounds sans AS.
