Amplifier upgrade suggestions
Great find there Brad!Dinky-here are the full specs for these amps
Binding Straps vs Jumpers
You could just use wire coat hangers for jumpers. It would work. That's how I look at manuf. binding strips. They designed the spkrs. to be bi-wired or bi-amped (or whatever) so I think they would sound better w/the same cables. They include the j...
Have you ever got emotionally attached
Maybe in the past but not now. It's just gear, it's man-made and will eventually fade away one way or another.I look at it this way-if my house burned down it's just a bunch of stuff. Sure, some of the things I have are heirlooms or have sentiment...
Downsizing from Ayre MX-R monoblocks
A good friend & audio bud bought a pair of Sonus Faber Electa Amator II's almost 4 yrs. ago & wound up making them part of his main system, replacing Aerial 10T's. He started out w/a BAT combo which sounded great but moved around the gear ...
Downsizing from Ayre MX-R monoblocks
I didn't have those but had the V-1xe which I sold almost 4 yrs. ago. I've been on quite the merry-go-round since then trying to find something that I could be happy with.I sold off that entire system to downsize but there really is no replacement...
SS integrated amp that has tube like qualities
A brand that flies under the radar is Primare.I've had lots of gear over the years and currently have one of their integrated units. Definitely worth looking into.Getting into the tube vs. SS debate is pointless IMO, so I'll simply say listen to a...
Is it okay to talk around your speakers?
Simply talk off-axis & you won't have any problems. This applies to all types of designs.I have heard it said not to talk closer than the 1st reflection point but that's never been proven.
Paradigm Studio 60 V5 Fingernails on Chalkboard
There are so many factors involved that could produce what you're hearing but my best guess are the metal dome tweeters. That's not to say you can't make them work but I think you'll have to do some room treatments at the minimum and a complete gea...
Personal amp evolution
My every other year post #4. Went through a few more changes but recently put a Primare integrated in the system. This is an older model (30.1 built in 2000) but had just been rebuilt & completely gone thru, so it was fresh. Actually I believe...
Monitors for a small room - please help
Agree w/the Dynaudio & Spendor recs. Big sound from a small enclosure. For an integrated, check out the Primare line. This is a company that flies under the radar & has an authorized US repair facility that is top notch.
Has your audio system gotten you into new music?
For me, the influence of new music has come mostly from two sources-traveling & hearing what other folks are playing (or suggesting). I traveled around the country for many yrs. & listened to the radio for the most part. I had a little tap...
Help power pair of Infinity Kappa 9's please
Hi Jtiesel2,I was serious about using a pro audio amp. I don't know all the specs of all the units out there but I do know of 2k+ watt units that will easily play @ 2 ohms that sell new well under $2k. I've used QSC amps for over 30 yrs, so they m...
Help power pair of Infinity Kappa 9's please
Hi Timlub-my previous comment was directed towards OP. IMO, he did not appreciate the "experience, suggestions, or words of wisdom", even though they were solicited.Kind of surprising for a first time poster.
Help power pair of Infinity Kappa 9's please
Although some folks do get on here & brag about their gear, that's not what it's really all about. If that's your goal, I think you're going to be disappointed when you ask for advice, especially when you retort with, "thanks for your discoura...
Help power pair of Infinity Kappa 9's please
Agree w/the above responses, however, a pair of Adcom 565 mono-blocks might work. I had the Kappa 8's paired w/the 565's & chose the 8's over the 9's based on my dealer's rec. (who is still in business!) so many yrs. ago. What, early to mid 80...
