Mellow speakers for a digital piano
I have JBL 305's in one of my studio rooms and they do digital pianos just find. They have a softer upper end than the Revels in my main room. I suspect it's the samples your piano is playing and not the monitors.
Pros and Cons of "Staying with" Analog and Vinyl
I can only listen to so much "old music" so I have a digital collection. I can only listen to so much "new music" so I have a vinyl collection. Both have benefits, both can sound good in their own way, so why not have both?
How does the drum kit sound on your rig?
Drums are the primary reason I listen to vinyl. Even on a modest system they have better dynamics and are warmer and more realistic sounding than on digital. Dialing in just the cymbals is tricky as it is highly dependent on how they were recorded...
Stand out phono stages
I had the latest Steelhead and a PSA GCPH in my studio for several months. One gripe about the Steelhead is that MC cartridges sound a little sweeter with better high end definition though the MM inputs, but lose a little low end punch. I tried to...
The ignorance of SACD & DVD-A marketing idiots....
SACD presents the same dilemma as vinyl in that the library reeks of formaldehyde. I like going back in time occasionally, but I don't want to live there.
Anyone compare budget phono oft recomended?
I have a PS Audio GCPH in one room, and a Steelhead in another. Have A/B'd them side by side numerous times. What you pay for in the Manley is superior enunciation of individual instruments. It rocks with violins, sax, voices etc. Imaging is near e...
What power cable for DAC?
In all fairness, his e-mails regarding this were a few years ago and it's possible he has a different position now. I'm trying to keep an open mind about this issue until I've done my own tests which why I'm hosting a shootout-see my post.
What power cable for DAC?
I followed Daniel Weiss's advice regarding power cords for the DAC1 MK2 and the ADC2 I bought from him. He said use whatever you want, it won't make any difference. But what does he know.
An analog question for those who record
Davidboone your killing me. Never expected to be making analog copies again until this thread. Now I have a cassette player permanently installed in one room, am putting a new belt on my 1/2 track tonight. Life would be so much simpler if I could ...
Dialing in my analog rig - Need help
You didn't mention results of different load settings on the PS Audio. Also, because there are two gain stages, you need to tweak them to find the sweet spot. You should be able to make it sing without a pre-amp, if not it's something else in the ...
higher end jazz vinyl: where to turn?
I began buying the expensive re-issues but found that several stores in my area are almost giving away original jazz pressings. I've bought several unopened jazz records including blue note for $3.99 and hundreds of NM LP's for $1.00. Search craig...
An analog question for those who record
I had never heard of Tape Project, that is just sick. I can't imagine a better sounding source other than sitting in the studio listening to the 1st generation multi-track. Even at $300 per album, it's probably worth it.
An analog question for those who record
This deck has phono RIAA inputs. Haven't heard it so don't know about sound quality.Tascam CC 222SLmkII $469.
An analog question for those who record
Just dug out the two cassette decks I've had collecting dust in the garage for several years. The better of the two wouldn't run, but the other did, and I fed it a few LP's via a Manley Steelhead using a 30 year old blank cassette. The results wer...
Vinyl comeback now, cassette tapes next?
Yes there were some good cassette decks made several years ago. I used to compare the better ones to my 1/2 track R.R and signal to noise and frequency response was pretty close. You could make surprisingly good recordings that exceeded commercial...
