Your Forever Pieces? What and Why?
Probably my McIntosh C2500 tube preamp and MC452 solid state power amp...maybe my Focal Sopra No2 speakers and JL Audio F113V2 sub woofers. My all-digital sources are probably the things that will see the most improvement in the future, not so much...
Is it time to just quit?
As "barrysandy" said:" Maybe it is time to quit buying stuff if you’ve reached the point with your system that you really enjoy listening to it. It’s not surprising you’d start to think about this, especially if you’ve been in the hobby for a lon...
Is the McIntosh MC462 a "solid?" buy still?
I have enjoyed an MC452 now for over three years.  Over the weekend at a party, I connected with an audio buddy who compared the MC452 with the MC462 and said that he couldn't hear any difference between the two amps.  I suspect that, if your spea...
Can you live with your current speaker until you die?
shkong78,The Sopra's are rated at 91db with one watt of input, not "super efficient", but more efficient than most.I have them in a 24x26' room and when I'm listening to them at a loud (for me) level, the needles on my power amp dance around the 4...
Can you live with your current speaker until you die?
I'm 65 years old and have enjoyed a pair of Focal Sopra No2's since they first came out and every time I hear another speaker that I like, they sound "different" than my Sopra's, but not "better", not getting the "hots" to trade.I haven't heard th...
Can you live with your current speaker until you die?
I've been accused of being a "serial monogamist" with my audio system, up until a year ago, was on a 6 to 7 year journey, swapping out one component at a time, till I arrived at the setup I have now.I'm 65 and it's likely I'll keep the equipment I...
Suggestions on speakers
I would suggest you take your time and audition as many models as you can, within the range of prices and speaker sizes you can accommodate.  Lots of good suggestions (above), you may also want to listen to the Harbeth's, KEF's, Quad's, Magnapan's...
PS Audio DS Jr vs. SR
I've owned a "Sr" since they first came on the market, and have been very happy with it ever since.Paul from PS Audio says the "Jr" is "85%" as good as a "Sr".  I've heard both, but not side by side.  The "Sr" in my opinion seems to extract a bit ...
JBL - almost nothing for sale, why?
Back in the late 70's-early 80's I sold equipment at a high-end store in DC and sold a ton of L100's and not a single pair was returned by the purchaser.  I always thought of them as "rock and roll speakers", but I must say, I sold these to people...
How can anyone want more......Just a very happy listener.
For about five years I was on the upgrade path, swapping out one component at a time, fortunately each swap was an improvement, but am now happy with my equipment and am pretty much "done" with hardware upgrades.  It's now time in my journey to sh...
Accuphase Vs Parasound
I agree with the people who've said the Accuphase is in a different class altogether than the Parasound, I've listened to lots of models of both manufacturers and found they are both excellent choices at their price points.I bought a pre-owned Yam...
New McIntosh 462 amplifier -
I have enjoyed an MC452 now for over three years, if anything the MC462 should be better!  This amp sounds smooth, can listen for hours on end with no fatigue, but is also somewhat "fast" and very "musical".If I were looking to buy a new amp today...
... how important is Damping factor in determining what amp to buy
Three plus years ago I was "on a mission" to find a new pair of floor-standing speakers. One of my stops was at a dealer to audition the then Magico S5's.  As the "main" listening room was occupied, the salesman hooked the speakers to a Hegel power...
The "how many reviews it got" rule
I'm not sure the "review business" is the same as it was in the 1980's.  Back then I worked in the high-end audio business and met some reviewers who told me that the way this game works is, the reviewer is shipped an item and if they were favorab...
Accuracy vs. musicality
Back in the day I sold high-end equipment and learned that there are people who more listening to the equipment and others who more listen to the music.I believe we all hear differently and have different ways we enjoy the audio system experience....
